Ichiban, Nanba, Adachi, and Zhao were strolling through the bustling streets of Isezaki Ijincho, enjoying the rare moment of peace after a hectic week. The neon lights from the pachinko parlors and karaoke bars glowed brightly in the evening, casting a warm, almost nostalgic hue over the city.
Zhao, ever the charmer, was in the middle of an animated story about a wild night he once had at a club when Nanba suddenly slowed his pace, staring off into the distance.
The others didn’t notice at first, too caught up in Zhao’s tale, but then Nanba surprised everyone by randomly blurting out, “It’s so real out here!”
The group came to a sudden stop, turning to face him. Ichiban’s eyebrows knitted in confusion. “What do you mean by that, “Nanba?”
Nanba blinked, as if just realizing what he’d said. “You know, just… all of this,” he gestured vaguely at the city around them. “The sounds, the people… it’s like, life is really happening out here, man.”
Adachi let out a sigh, shaking his head. “You’ve been spending too much time in that tiny apartment of yours, Nanba. Of course, life is happening out here. It’s a city.”
Zhao chuckled, nudging Ichiban. “You should take him out more often, Ichiban. Guy’s starting to get philosophical.”
Ichiban laughed, but there was a warmth to it. “Hey, nothing wrong with thinking about life, right? It’s part of what makes us human.” He clapped a hand on Nanba’s shoulder. “But maybe save the deep stuff for when we’re not in the middle of a night out?”
Nanba looked sheepish. “Yeah, sorry about that. Guess I just got caught up in the moment.”
Zhao smirked. “Don’t worry about it. Let’s just make sure the next moment involves some drinks. You in, Nanba?”
Nanba’s face broke into a grin. “Yeah, I’m in.”
As they resumed their walk, the mood quickly lifted again. Ichiban threw an arm around Nanba’s shoulders, pulling him closer. “Just don’t start talking about the meaning of life in the middle of karaoke, okay?”
Nanba laughed, feeling the warmth of their camaraderie wash over him. “No promises, Ichiban. No promises.”
