Chapter Text
“Hey Toast, over here!”
Soup was waving eagerly at Toast, having seen the other clone arrive to the mess hall.
As it was, them both often being teased for their names, the reason behind that simple: call it an omen perhaps, as the two certainly enjoyed cooking. Having done plenty a catering for their friends parties after discovering their talent.
The two having even bonded over the fine cuisine early on, becoming fast friends and soon enough having decided to go ahead with the hobby and kind of a business where they created meals, feasts even for others needing them. Sometimes for free for friends, often trading them either for favours or for the credits for the more larger shindigs.
What wasn’t as obvious though, even if the two cuisine artists mostly hang out with each other, was the fact that Soup, had formed a major crush on his friend Toast. Well, guess it was obvious to some, but certainly not Toast. Or was it?
Alas after some time of pining in private, and not so private, Soup was about to change all that.
Soup having already hinted of his interest on moving to another stage in their friendship to some extent. As having found out it wasn’t as one sided as originally thought. Toast having expressed his desires for some, well, companionship without naming names. But his eyes having never left Soup’s after the two had gotten a tad tipsy after a rather successful catering gig.
Alas, the thought of the two of them having been left lingering in the air between them, but neither of them having brought it up since.
And so now, that was about to change. As Soup, had already something planned for the two of them. With a confession to make of his own, only hoping Toast was still interested, and that he had actually read the other clone, his friend correctly.
“Hey bud, how’s tricks?”
Toast was all smiles as per his usual. Mostly it did seem to happen whenever he was around his best bud, Soup. Just like now. All grins as soon as he had spotted Soup waving at him.
“Couldn’t be any better…” Soup was eating his usual meal, soup but of course. Alas, no toast (Toast)?
“Yeah?” Toast sat down, picking up the second spoon Soup usually reserved for Toast, their ritual as it were with them both picking from the large size bowl of, well soup! “Salty, innit.” Toast made a face.
“Yeah, guess the cook was a bit distracted today.” Soup chuckled, having heard the rumours the two clones on rotation today in the kitchen had had a fight and so, guess food wasn’t really on either of their minds.
“Oh?”
“Yeah, just something of a lovers tiff I guess.” Soup continued eating as well, despite the salty taste.
“So, no toast today?” Toast having noticed the lack of bread on the tray, the pun unintended (this time).
“They were out, but, guess I have my own here now.”
Soup glanced at Toast from under his lashes, the puns and double entendres mostly having flown past Toast so far. But, apparently not today, much to Soup’s surprise. As Toast stopped his spoon mid air, staring at his friend in… confusion?
“I um… well, hehe, I am here now.” Toast flashed red, making Soup chuckle.
“And I am glad you are.” Soup let Toast off the hook for now. As he was a man on a mission. “So, are we still on for tonight?”
“Of course.” Toast wasn’t sure why Soup was asking as the two had a most regular arrangement to pretty much hang out together whenever they had time off. It was as natural as that for them.
“Good, then prepare, for a treat!” Soup told Toast as much, sounding slightly cryptic as well.
“Oh. What is it?”
“You will find out tonight.”
Toast could only stare at Soup. The slight pinkish hue still lingering on his face. Guess it was the too salty soup (Soup) causing it?
But there was nothing further comments forthcoming, the two then turning into other topics to talk about, like the two cooks in the kitchen and the drama looming over them wherever they went.
