Chapter Text
It was finally summer break. Yosuke's partner, Yu, had already moved back to his old school, but he promised to come down to Inaba tomorrow. Yosuke grinned at the sound of the dismissal bell, shuffling in his desk in excitement. He quickly gathered his things, shoving his books and notebooks into his bag almost carelessly.
His classmate, Chie, deadpanned as she watched Yosuke scramble. “What's your deal? Excited for your partner to come back?” The sports jacket wearing girl snickered, poking fun at her friend.
“Well, obviously! It's been… like… forever since we've last seen Yu!” Yosuke crossed his arms, somewhat glaring at Chie. “How could I not be excited?! He's a great guy.”
Chie jokingly rolled her eyes and mocked Hanamura’s excitement. “Woooowwww. My pArTnEr’S coming back!!” She laughed, placing her hands on her hips. “Geez. What is he, your idol or something?”
Yosuke shrugged his shoulders, trying to act all nonchalant. “Yeah yeah, I'm going home, Satonaka.” He scoffed and stood up from his seat.
Chie nodded her head. “Seeya. I'm gonna wait on Yukiko!”
“Got it, see you tomorrow Chie!” The two waved each other off, and Yosuke walked out of Yasogami. He pulled his headphones up over his head, and turned on his mp3 player. Small amounts of audio feedback could be heard if you were close enough to him as he walked home. He took the day off of Junes to prepare for the big day tomorrow, and luckily his dad was okay with it.
Yosuke hummed and moved his head side to side with the beat of his music, his steps on the sidewalk lining up with the drums. He focused on every small detail of the song: the bass, the guitar, the way the sounds moved from the left speaker to the right, everything about it. The details of the music combined with the calm atmosphere Inaba had once more brought Yosuke so much hope for tomorrow.
He couldn't wait to see Yu, his partner, his best man. He really liked Yu, especially how brave he was. He led the investigation, and didn’t shut down when Nanako got kidnapped. Yu was truly a good friend, leader, everything. Yu was… great.
Yosuke sped up his pace in anticipation as he approached his house. He opened the door with ease and quickly paced up the stairs to put up his things… and maybe do a little bit of homework before tomorrow. He arrived in his room, a big smile on his face as he opened his bag and sorted everything out.
Tomorrow… was going to be great. He would make sure of it. After all, he’s one of the brains of the group— despite his silly attitude and wacky antics.
Even though the investigation was over, Yu still kept in touch. Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, Yu, Naoto… everyone was in a group chat. Yu would give updates about his life away from Inaba, whether it be acing an exam or tripping over his own feet and spilling his lunch. Despite the distance between everyone and Yu, nothing could keep them apart for long. They were all close, like… many peas in a weird mutated pod!
Yosuke sat down at his desk and leaned back in his chair. Teddie wouldn’t be back until later, so Yosuke had some time to himself. He sighed and closed his eyes, it was time to relax. Then, he could plan the rest out.
