It wasn’t obvious at first. But as the days dragged into months and the number of exposure increased, Ainosuke came to the conclusion that Tadashi was seeing someone.
It started when one day Ainosuke noticed Tadashi smelled different each time he came home. Until finally the perfume that clung to him became consistent.
It’s a particularly distinct smell. Jovial. Refreshing. Romantic. That was how it smelled like. Ainosuke thought that Tadashi might be seeing someone younger. Someone cheerful, and energetic. Maybe someone who’s Tadashi’s complete opposite.
Because Ainosuke was busy he hasn’t got the time to attend Cherry and Joe’s get togethers. When his schedule cleared, the opportunity came, so he decided to go.
It was like a slap to the face. The same exact smell that Tadashi carries with him constantly harassed Ainosuke’s senses the moment Reki arrived at the get together. Ainosuke was surprised because who would’ve thought? He was not expecting this. Maybe he made a mistake. He was in disbelief.
It was all made clear to him that Tadashi and Reki were truly seeing each other in secret when Tadashi arrived at the get-together. The slight smile on Tadashi’s face when he saw Reki was telling. It was even made more obvious when Reki turned red and ran to him to help him with his things.
“Love birds.” Joe mumbled. Cherry cleared his throat and elbowed Joe. Joe however could not keep his mouth shut.
“Reki is so damn obvious!”
“Are they seeing each other?” Ainosuke asked, his voice nonchalant as he stared at Reki taking some of Tadashi’s stuff for him to carry inside Joe’s resto.
There was silence then. Ainosuke felt like he was enclosed alone inside a big dark room and all he could hear was his own heart breaking to tiny little pieces.
Langa arrives and also runs to help Tadashi, as if to hide what was truly going on between Reki and Tadashi.
“Yes they are seeing each other.” Cherry says matter of factly.
Ainosuke falls silent. That was oppurtunity lost. The thought he monopolized Tadashi's affection turned out to be just a silly delusion.
