Oh love.
Love was such a beautiful thing. But a curse when taken away. Love was a blessing and curse in one. Fortunate for some and unfortunate for others.
Simon was tracing Johnny's knuckles, looking down at them with admiration and love.
Johnny looks at his hand then up at him with a smirk. It was always hard to guess what Simon was thinking. But Johnny liked the challenge. "Is my hand that nice to look at?"
Simon doesn't look away from the area and continues to absent-mindedly caress it. "It'd look good with a ring." He murmured softly.
Johnny chuckled, trying not to seem like he was affected by Simon's words.. But he very much was. "Aye, is that so?" He knew what the man was implying.
Simon let's out a small grunt in response. "Maybe that's what I'll get you for your birthday."
"Woah, spoiling surprises now?" Johnny chuckled and moved closer to Simon. His smirk was a soft smile now. "..But I do love the sound of that." He glances down at his ring finger. Only for a moment before looking at Simon again. "You promise?"
Simon's eyes finally meet Johnny's with such a gentle fondness. "You have my word, love." His words almost came out in a hush.
Love. The little nickname made Johnny's heart race. Made him feel special. Like the happiest man on Earth. He wished this moment would last forever. Being so close to the one he loved, the one he would fight tooth and nail for. He was to die for.
Simon never used the nickname before. Never thought he would. But with Johnny, it felt so right. So perfect. That's all he felt when he looked at him. Love. He'd use the name as many times as it took to keep seeing that certain twinkle in his eyes. The way Johnny nuzzles closer everytime with the most genuine smile and the faintest, but most noticeable blush. It was cheesy, but not to them. To both of them, this was a dream they'd never thought would come true. A dream they'd never give up.
Simon has a small piece of metal clutched in his hand. A ring the exact finger size for Johnny. Only Johnny. It was his birthday. It had rained on that beautiful day. Rained awfully hard as Simon stood over Johnny's grave. The poor man looked down at the tombstone with sorrowful, somber eyes. If they only had time, they could've accomplished so much more together. Time and death are both inevitable. Both a curse and blessing in its own ways. But Simon sure as hell felt cursed right now. Was everyone around him bound to die?
"I kept my promise. Anything you wished for, I'll make it happen one way or another. Happy birthday, Johnny." Simon spoke loud enough so his voice was heard over the rain. He carefully placed the ring onto the soil before the tombstone. He caught a glimpse of his own ring on his ring finger.
"Rest in peace, 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦."
Oh, love.
