She loved me, she would never hurt me.” Matt’s gaze briefly lifted to meet Renee’s before focusing on the stack of books on her desk. “When I was a teenager, I thought it was schizophrenia. That the voice in her head that told her to do those things to me was an invented one. Now, though, after getting my degree in theology, I have other inklings as to what caused her cruelty.”
