Chapter Text
11:43 am]
It was late into the morning and the sun had already risen. The mellow golden rays entered the quiet bedroom through the gaps of the blinds. Bai Liu lay snuggled against Spades, looking comfortable and at ease.
However, maybe it was because of his built in clock that he had developed from his years of working at a game company in the early hours of the day, Bai Liu began to stir. He reluctantly opened his eyes to adjust to the rays of sunlight and found himself looking directly at Spades’ face.
As he gazed at Spades’ sleeping features, Bai Liu’s lips could not help but lift. He had never experienced the warmness of waking up next to one’s lover and he had never thought he would – he had to admit, it felt nice. Although Spades’ body was cold, Bai Liu could only feel the tender warmness while he lay beside him.
Feeling the need to get up, Bai Liu tried to sit up only to find that he couldn’t move– Spades’ arm was wrapped around his waist in a firm embrace, like a strong anchor holding its ship at bay.
Bai Liu felt that he should wake up Spades so that they could both get up and start their day, but part of him was also hesitant to. They didn’t have any appointments today nor did they need to enter a game, it was just that…
Bai Liu felt very awkward. With nothing to do and the strong arm embracing him preventing him from turning, Bai Liu could only stare at Spades– stare at his closed eyes, his relaxed face, and messy hair.
Not knowing what to do, Bai Liu could only sigh and brace his hands on Spades chest before making them climb all the way up to his face because of the tight and close proximity between their two bodies. He clasped Spades’ cold cheeks and pinched them:
“Spades, wake up.”
Spades did not respond but Bai Liu noticed that the hands embracing him had gotten tighter, causing Bai Liu to inch closer to Spades’ face. If Bai Liu paid close enough attention, he could probably count every individual eyelash on Spades’ face.
This time, Bai Liu did not know what to do, he had planned to try and unknit Spades’ interlaced fingers and free himself but now his arms were stuck on Spades face, with his elbows being restricted by Spades arms. This lizard was stubborn even when he was asleep…
Bai Liu let out another sigh and pursed his lips. At this rate, they might stay like this until noon. Although he knew Spades would probably be fine, Bai Liu, as a regular human, needed to eat.
“Spades,” Bai Liu coaxed, “it’s time to wake up.”
Seeing that Spades, again, showed no sign of response, Bai Liu dragged his hands around Spades’ neck and shifted slightly forward…
And placed a kiss on Spades’ lips.
Like a princess awoken from a prince’s kiss, Spades opened his eyes and was greeted with the bright leaking light from outside. His face felt slightly warm as he saw Bai Liu inch away from his face and look him in the eye as though waiting for a response.
“Bai Liu, why did you kiss me?” Spades asked.
Feeling the weight of Spades’ arm loosen, Bai Liu quickly pulled Spades’ arms off him and sat up, bathing in the warm rays of sunlight coming in. He turned to Spades and replied, “giving you a good morning kiss.”
“Do lovers often give each other good morning kisses?” Spades asked, “should I give you one?”
The two looked at each other in silence, one was eagerly waiting for an answer while the other’s expression could not be read.
“No,” Bai Liu answered a little too quickly, “I don’t want one anyways.”
“Oh.”
Though Bai Liu’s response would seem refusing to onlookers, Spades saw that the corners of Bai Liu’s mouth had lifted. Although it seemed like his lips were pursed in an indifferent manner, Spades sensed that Bai Liu was…
Bai Liu climbed out of the bed and walked to Spades’ side, who was still lying on the bed where he had left him. Spades could see most of Bai Liu from where he was– his untied bed hair, his slightly dazed eyes, and his thin lips. He stared at Bai Liu very intently, like he was a painter observing artworks.
Suddenly, Bai Liu bobbed down and pecked Spades’ lips again. The touch left as soon as it came, but Spades could still feel the lingering warmth.
“Although I don’t want one, you seem to,” Bai Liu said, “but good morning kisses are only reserved for the morning. Just now, the clock handle has reached 12, making it 12:00 in the afternoon.”
Bai Liu quickly straightened up and walked to the door, leaving Spades alone in the bedroom.
The day was almost half over, but for them, it had only just started.
