Chapter Text
In his room sat the lone inventor, the clock striking nine in the evening. He was scrolling through his phone, his half forgotten invention in his lap as he swung on his chair. Rui came across a retweet, captioned: ‘If this is real, Tenma-kun’s actually so weird, but in a good way!’
The retweet featured Japan's latest and greatest rising idol, Tenma Tsukasa, in a seemingly innocent post about needing some help. Oh?
Captioned: ‘If you have the guts and have the strength, I need a proper bodyguard to help me around my idol work!’ with an application form. An application form, leading the clicker to the idol’s agency looking for a work website. There is no way Rui thought this was real. Even so, as the boy scrolled through the website, they had the contact information of all of Tsukasa’s managers, and even the owner of the agency, a well known and kind man, Kaito.
He supposed he’d apply, it’d be good for the website traffic, and he’d probably ignore most since they’d just be messages from fans. He filled out the form, stating his name, age, current job, and added a link to his social platform where he loves to share his inventions (he thought twice about adding it, but whatever).
He continued on his latest invention, a tranquiliser gun. It was interesting to make, and the serum is just liquid sedative. He copied the looks of a gun, and for fun, made it look like a revolver. Rui posed with it, took a photo, and then took a video of him shooting it at a target. He returned to the filming phone with a smile and a giggle before ending the video and posting the two files to his platform, captioned “I made a tranquiliser :3”
He then went on with his day, not giving it too much thought. He called Mizuki, they probably wanted to go shopping (they had).
The next day brought his middle school best friend, Akiyama Mizuki. “Rui! You can't be sitting like a shrimp all the time!” They scolded as soon as they entered his workshop.
“Oh I'll be fine..” He sat up, cracking his back, causing the pink haired to raise a brow. They later dragged the boy to the mall, and soon, Rui found himself talking.
“-So I stumbled on this retweet right, and apparently, Tenma is looking for a bodyguard..”
Mizuki snorted, “No way. He isn’t that oblivious, it’s probably just a link to some ‘send me a message’ website. The whole bodyguard thing is probably an inside joke.”
“Mizuki-“
“I mean you would know right?” They continued on, “You’re a huge fan of his.”
“Hey! Friendly fire will not be tolerated.” The others jaw dropped as Rui held a smirk high on his face. “I’ll have you know the website was official. He is seriously looking for a bodyguard.”
Their face relaxes as they throw a few glances while looking through the rack of clothes. “There’s no way anyone will actually take it you know?”
“Yea, it’s probably just some ruse. Even though they even had Sekai’s CEO’s contact there, and his manager- Kusanagi Nene.”
“The Kaito? No way.” To which Rui pulls up his phone, going through his search history and finding the link from the previous night. The pink-haired looks through his application, face contorted in surprise. “Brownie points for showing your weaponry, even if they don’t hire you they’re gonna want to get their hands on some self defence.”
Rui scoffed, “Yea. Okay”. They ended up buying more clothes, stopping by to get ice cream, and passing by an accessories shop.
“You know, these thin frame glasses would do wonders for your favourite outfit. You could probably redo your prescription to fit them, they’d work so well on you!” Rui considered it, looking in the mirror at the end of the rack.
“They do look great. I.. quite like them.” He looked back at an ecstatic Mizuki, the softest smile on his face.
“We’re getting them!” And they were soon rushed out by Mizuki, rushing home to watch Rui as he fits his current lenses into his new frames.
“So simple to do at home..” The world becomes sharper under the glasses, as he adjusts. He ignores Mizuki’s muttering as they sift through his computer.
“Pause.”
“Pause?” Rui echoes.
“What’s Tenma’s official company email?”
“Mizuki no. No hacking into not so random companies..”
“Rui no! Just- One, I know. Two, humour me! Please." They plead.
A huff from the taller. “[email protected], or something along those lines. It's really complicated.”
“You uh, got an email from them…” They turn in Rui’s chair, posture stiff.
“No I didn’t Amia.”
“I’m serious Ru look! It’s not even like a spoof email or one of those tricking ones, it’s real! They’re asking for your LINE..” Rui leans over the desk, examining the message.
“I’m gonna make a new one, just in case..”
—
10 minutes later, someone is online.
“They responded! ‘Kamishiro Rui? It’s nice to meet you, you can call me Ms. Kusanagi. I am Tenma’s main manager.’ Well this looks suspicious.” Rui read aloud.
“Well even if they’re fake! It's a good way to spend time! We don’t have much else to do today…” Rui supposed his childhood friend had a point.
>> Kamishiro Rui
> Nice to meet you!
>> Kusanagi Nene
> To you as well. I do believe you may be suspicious, would a call, or video call help?
> Or are you more interested in a real meet up?
>> Kamishiro Rui
> Just, making sure here, you want me to be Tenma’s bodyguard?
>> Kusanagi Nene
> If you are still interested in that position, we’d be glad to have you.
Rui and Mizuki stared in shock, jaws slack.
“Real meetup is super suspicious Rui!” Rui retaliated against their claim, wanting to go. They agreed on a settlement, as long as Mizuki was watching from a distance to protect him in case of emergency, they could proceed with the meetup.
Rui returned to the LINE.
>> Kamishiro Rui
> Yea! I’d be honoured to work with you!
> I wanted to ask if you’d be comfortable doing a real meetup?
>> Kusanagi Nene
> That would be no problem. I will arrange it, and tell you where to go. You will be meeting me though, and please do not stand out too much, there is a reason why Tsukasa’s team is all faceless.
>> Kamishiro Rui
> Of course! Yet, how will I know it’s you?
>> Kusanagi Nene
> Don't worry too much about it. Worse case scenario, I can approach you and ask you if something you are wearing is Tsukasa merch.
>> Kamishiro Rui
> Thank you, Ms. Kusanagi. And thank you for considering me.
>> Kusanagi Nene
> Why of course! The boy himself wanted you on the team as soon as he read your application.
> Your weaponry is really impressive too. Tenma was highly impressed with your drones.
I wonder what that could mean, Rui thought as he typed in an answer, and bid the woman goodnight.
“Insane work, Ru.”
“Go away Amia.”
