Interrupted

Summary:

C.C. and Niles are interrupted at the most inconvenient moment.

A rewritten version of a story first published on ff.net in 2014

Notes:

Well, hello, hello! I'm not dead (yet)!
I wanted to share this rewritten story with you, as in June marked 10 years since it was first published. I thought it would be nice to celebrate its little anniversary.

Enjoy! And of course, as always, any of your thoughts or comments are more than welcome.

Work Text:

Clad in his navy blue pajamas, with his reading glasses on, Niles sat on the bed, leaning back against the soft pillow, reading his book. The soft light was on, casting cozy semi-shadows on the pastel bedroom walls. C.C., fresh from her bath, came out from the bathroom, applying hand cream. She glanced at her husband and a mischievous smile played on her lips, making her look like a cat ready to attack. She reached for the light switch and adjusted it, so Niles couldn’t continue his read. He raised his eyes from the book and slid his glasses down just enough to peer over them, observing her without a word. C.C. was wearing her favourite silk pajama, which had been almost worn out, but she refused to get rid of it, and her damp hair was tied in a messy bun. Her cheeks glowed from the bathroom steam, water droplets trailed down her skin, her lips parted slightly, her eyes narrowed…

“I see you’ve taken out your contacts, honey. But does this squinting really help?” Niles asked with fake concerned tone, flashing a cheeky smile.

“I wanted to look sexy, Dust Buster!” C.C. retorted, rolling her eyes and settling herself on the bed next to him.

“Oh…” he nodded with acknowledgement. “I’m afraid you never will,” he tossed, attempting to sound worried, before turning back to his book.

“You think so?” she asked with her deep voice, lowering the book onto his lap and covering the text with her hand.

“Indeed,” Niles tried to remain unaffected as he gently tugged the book from under her hand.

C.C., biting her lower lip slightly, murmured, “Maybe… just maybe, you could change your mind.”

Niles glanced up at her, knowing there was no need for his opinion to change. His wife was undeniably sexy, and they both were aware of that.

“You’re not going to let me read, are you, Witch?” he chuckled.

“Ehhmm…” she pretended considering his words. “No.” With that, she shut his book and knelt beside him. Carefully, she removed his glasses and placed them, along with the book, on the night table. Her slender fingers traced along his jawline as she planted an innocent kiss on his lips. He lazily reciprocated, savoring her taste. They slowly pulled apart, taking a moment to catch their breath.

“Still not convinced” Niles smirked, his eyes gleaming mischievously.

“Oh, yeah?” C.C. questioned, leaning in for another kiss. This time, she pressed her body against his, running her fingers through his sandy hair. He placed one hand on the small of her back, untangling her bun with the other. Her damp hair, loosely waved after being held tight, cascaded down her shoulders, as their kiss intensified. Their eyes locked, slowly darkening with desire.

C.C. roamed her hands over her husband’s muscular arms, before sliding them under his pajama shirt, exploring yet again the familiar contour of his chest. Niles felt familiar twitch between his legs. He moved his hands from her waist a little lower, grasping gently her shapely buttocks, and lifting her onto his lap. She felt warmth spreading to her core, and sighed softly as Niles began planting kisses on her neck and bare shoulders. His hands wandered all over her body, causing goosebumps to rise on her skin. She slid her hands from under his shirt and started unbuttoning it, her movements quicker with each button undone.

“Well then, C.C.,” Niles murmured in his deep voice, slowly tracing his fingers along inside of her thigh, “show me how sexy you are.”

“Oh my…” She blurted breathlessly, not able to finish the sentence. Just as she was about to shift, to feel him closer to her, the bedroom door opened with a creak. Their three-year-old son stood on the doorway with his favourite teddy bear in his hand. Clueless that he’d just interrupted, he scrambled onto their bed.

“I had a bad dream,” he said, looking up at them with his huge azure eyes.

C.C. slipped off Niles’ lap and sat beside him.

“My poor baby. Is it okay now?” she asked the boy and embraced him as he nodded in response.

“Can I sleep with you?” The little one asked, snuggling against his mother.

“Davis, you’re a big boy,” C.C. turned to him, gently trying to convince him. “Big boys don’t sleep with their parents.”

“Mum’s right. Besides if you go back to your bedroom, it’ll help you to overcome your fear,” Niles agreed, trying to sound persuasive, but there was a hint of desperation in his voice. “Is there any chance you’ll go back?”

“I don’t think so…”, Davis replied.

C.C. run her fingers through his sandy hair, same as his father’s, “Davis, sweetheart.”

He thought for a moment. “I can go if Daddy tells me a story.”

“Can’t Mummy do that?” Niles asked, glancing down at the bottom of his pajamas and giving C.C. the knowing look, which caused her snort silently.

“No.” The boy refused firmly. “Only you.”

“Well then, okay.” Niles finally agreed. “Just give me that.” He pointed at the bathrobe lying next to his son, folded at the foot of the bed. Davis nodded with a smile and obediently reached for the robe, handing it to his father and rumpling it in the process.

Niles stood up, quickly threw on the robe and tied it tightly, trying to conceal the bulge in his pants.

C.C. pursed her lips together, trying to hold back her laughter. He shot her “who laughs last, laughs best” look, which, ironically, amused her even more.

„Night Mommy,” Davis said, rubbing his eyes to fight off sleep.

„Night, sweetheart.” She kissed his forehead and he returned the kiss on her cheek, before he hurried after his shuffling father.

Niles came back in an record time.

“He’s already asleep?” C.C. asked, toying with the strap of her blouse suggestively.

“Well…” Niles tossed off his robe and made his way to her side in a few strides. “I started telling him the story of how I met you,” he rustled, his breath pleasantly warm against her neck as he began showering her delicate skin with kisses.

C.C. let out a sultry laugh, shoving his arm playfully. “How dare you! It’s not that boring.”

Niles paused for a moment, looking at her to meet her gaze. His expression softened. “Of course not,” he said sincerely.

They held each other’s gaze, love evident in their eyes. C.C. cupped his face with one hand and caressed his jaw line lovingly, just before he resumed kissing her. Seconds later C.C. fingers mindlessly unbuttoned his shirt, which he had likely done up on his way to their son’s room.

As the shirt slipped down, C.C. gently grasped his arms, feeling his hands slip into her pajama legs. He leisurely made his way up, his caresses driving her wild.

“Niles!” she urged him. He stopped caressing her thighs, deliberately teasing her, then silenced her complaints with a deep kiss. His hands roamed all over her body, and C.C. followed suit, caressing him.

Just as he was about to slide off her pajama pants, she mumbled against his lips, her voice muffled, “Lane’s crying.”

C.C. scrabbled around, trying to locate the baby monitor on the night table, as the sound of their one-year old daughter cries were getting louder, but it was nowhere to be found.

“Let her,” Niles rasped as he reached for the monitor, turning the volume down.

“She’ll wake Davis,” C.C. stated sanely and gently pulled herself away from him.

“You’re right,” he sighed and nodded, reluctantly moving aside. “I’ll go.”

“No, stay. It’s my turn.” She slipped out of the bed, grabbing the robe that Niles had dropped earlier on the way. “I’ll be right back,” she assured with a glimmer in her eyes, throwing the robe on as she headed out.

She returned half an hour later, her face lined with fatigue. Niles was back to his book, just like before, when she had first interrupted him.

“She didn’t want to sleep at all…” C.C. sighed, walking towards the bathroom door to hang up the robe. “And honestly, whose timing do those kids have? Cause definitely not ours,” she said with a tired smile, climbing back onto the bed.

Niles put his book aside and pulled her into his arms. “I think they’re spending too much time with Fran,” he joked.

They both laughed, sharing a quick chaste kiss.

“You’re probably right,” C.C. agreed with a yawn. “God, I’m exhausted. Lane’s going to finish me off someday.” She collapsed onto her pillow and then added, “I’ll show you how sexy I can be next time, okay?”

“You don’t have to,” Niles said, kissing her cheek softly. “You’re always sexy to me.”

He then turned off the light and tucked the cover around them. Drifting off to sleep, he listened to the comforting rhythm of his wife’s steady breathing, happy to have his baby by his side.
