Logan's ears swiveled, up and alert, but his eyes stayed forward. Focused.
His prey darted to the left, and his head snapped to follow. He crept forward slowly, one paw in front of the other, fur bristling.
His prey had yet to notice him, still sitting out in the open. The short, green grass of the landing did nothing to camouflage its small, glowing, red form.
His nose twitched in excitement as he slunk ever closer. He was so going to catch this weird, scentless prey—
It wiggled in place.
Logan pounced.
His claws landed overtop the glowing creature with a satisfying thump, and he grinned, a victorious purr rumbling in his chest. Easy.
That was when a red glow on the edge of his vision caught his eye.
He blinked. It was the red dot. He peeked under his paws, and it was gone. What?
Logan whipped around to face the prey with an irritated whine. How did-? No, that didn't matter, because he was gonna get it.
Logan leapt again, but this time, it phased straight through his paws and ran away. He stared after it, mouth open in shock before it clicked. The little red dot was cheating! So unfair!
Logan snarled, his legs bunching underneath him before he took off in pursuit.
If that was how it wanted to play, then fine! He was no quitter!
He chased the prey in a wide circle around the landing, even as it made sharp turns, loop-de-loops, and zig-zags.
Suddenly, it stopped, and Logan had to scramble to change directions as he blew past it.
It continued to sit still, taunting him, and he sprang forward to bite it— only to wind up with a mouthful of grass.
He dropped back into a sitting position and shook his head, disgruntledly glaring at the spot his prey had been as his tail lashed.
How could it have gotten away? There was no way it could've run fast enough to evade his powerful jaws!
He scanned the area for the stupid, cheating prey when his eyes caught on his friends, all sitting a short distance away. Cooper was smiling softly, Mateo sitting next to him and doodling with a smirk. Izzie, leaning back against Zian, was grinning with pure glee written across her features. Even Zoey seemed amused.
That was when he noticed the laser pointer in Izzie's hand.
Affrontedly, Logan spat out his mouthful of grass.
"Aw, c'mon, seriously?! That is so unfair! Give me something I can actually catch!"
