Tuesdays weren't fun in Funneh's opinion, 'cause it meant that Miss Emily wasn't in. The car she had pulled back roared to life as she let go, whizzing across the classroom with impressive speed. The raven haired girl watched intently, completely in awe of the thing.
Red and orange flashed by under the bridge that one weird kid had built, and quickly beelined towards the wobbly table.. Uh oh.. Funneh barely had time to turn away from the crime scene that definitely wasn't her fault before she heard the unmistakable, unbearable, sound of glass breaking. Her chubby hands flew towards her ears as she tried desperately to block out the noise.
What Funneh couldn't block out, however, was the sound of footsteps, harsh and heavy, in her direction. Funneh wasn't dumb, contrary to popular belief, she knew apologies wouldn't get her anywhere, especially with Mrs. Hemlock, so she settled for the next best thing, lying. Her mom always said to never admit anything without a lie- er present, so she'd be one 'cause there weren't any around!
"Caeke." The hag's scratchy voice hissed, full of hatrid. Funneh would call her something different, something more accurate, like a putrid smelling lizard, but then she'd feel bad for insulting the lizard like that! "How come whenever there's trouble I find myself always saying your name?" She frowned, for a change.
The raven haired girl smiled, practiced and pretty even with a missing tooth, up at the hideous creature above her. "Huh? I've been sat here for five whole minutes!" Funneh knew she was doomed when the ugly monster smiled back. "Lying aswell? Oh dear, unfortunately, one of your classmates saw you, and I saw you playing with that red car earlier. That's an extra five minutes in at timeout." It smirked as Funneh's smile dropped, opening her mouth to argue again, before deciding against it. Tech-ni-cally she wasn't lying! She had been sat there for five minutes with the car.
"Smart girl, now go." She gave the girl a light push in the direction of the chair. She crossed her little arms and huffed, an involuntary whistle pushing its way through the gap in her teeth. Her lip quivered and tears threatened to spill as she sat in the brightly coloured purple chair. It wasn't fair! She wasn't a baby so she shouldn't be in timeout.
"So what a-wr-e you in for?" whispered a voice, probably a kid new to timeout, she didn't sound like a grown up. Funneh knew not to answer or turn her head anyway, the hag would always catch the talkative ones and put them in the big kid's class so it was smarter not to answer.
"What's that mean?"
"I dunno, my mommy says it all the time at the doctors and everyone laughs, and you looked sad, so I wanted to make you laugh!" the voice cheerfully said.
Funneh let out a surprised giggle and finally turned her head to look at her new friend, the girl's rosy cheeks and wide smile didn't seem to fit with someone sentenced to timeout. "Why'd the hag put you here?" the raven haired girl asked before immediately interrupting, "I knocked over a glass on acc-ee-dent."
The brunette pouted, "I only said that she should change her dress 'cause it's ugly!" she whined and Funneh had to try her best not to start laughing and alert the witch. "You're funny! What's your name?"
"My names Gold!" The little girl proudly stated, "What's your name?"
"I'm Funneh!"
"That's a weird name, let's be friends." She stuck her little hand out towards the paler girl.
"Best friends." Funneh grinned, accepting the handshake.
Tuesdays weren't that bad..
It was a Thursday, in summer this time, when they met her.
Another tug yanked her head back, just as harsh as the last ones. "Gold!" she screeched, wanting the suffering to be over already. "Sorry!! But look, I'm done!" The brunette smiled at her masterpiece.
The raven haired girl stared at her new braids, in the wonky play mirror, that hung on either side of her. They were surprisingly neat except for more than a few stray hairs. Funneh smiled at the reflection, a slight pink dusting her cheeks.
"I'm definitely gonna be a hairdresser when I grow up!"
"I thought you wanted to be a fash- fashion.. Whatever you said before!!" Funneh huffed
"It's called a fashionista and who says I can't be both? I'll be a fashionista hairdresser!" She declared firmly, approving her own statement with a confident nod, making Funneh giggle.
The clatter of wooden blocks hitting the floor caught the two's attention instantly. The bear girl, who's tower apparently got knocked down by Jacob, was growling fiercely.
It greatly pleased Funneh to see the smug little grin he always had be replaced with an expression of terror. He ran away with his metaphorical, and real, tail between his legs.
Funneh didn't even notice herself walking over to the bear girl until her hand was outstretched towards her. "Hi you're cool! What's your name?" Funneh grinned.
The bear girl doubtfully took the others hand before speaking. "I'm Rainbow, who are you?"
"Everyone has such weird names!" the bear girl jumped back, not having heard the brunette sneak up next to the other girl.
"Your name isn't normal too!" Funneh turned back to Rainbow, "I'm Funneh, and this is Gold!"
"That is a really weird name"
"Hey!" Funneh tried her best to look annoyed, "Rainbow isn't a comm-on name either!" The chestnut haired girl giggled. "My mama said that she and papa named me that cause I was a rainbow baby!" The other girls' eyes lit up with curiosity "What's that?" Rainbow beamed with pride as they sat down to listen to her story.
"My mama said that before I was delivered she order-ered another baby that the storks forgot to give her, 'cause they were really busy! So when she order-ered me they sent me on a rainbow straight to her doorstep as a sorry present!" Rainbow finished, and the two's eyes sparkled with admiration.
"You're so lucky you got to ride on a rainbow! That's so cool!" Funneh almost yelled. Rainbow smiled shyly as she sat down to join the other two, the headband with a cupcake on the top bouncing as she did.
"My dad and mom said that when I was a baby my parents cancelled their order 'cause they real-ali-lised they weren't ready for a baby, so instead of throwing me away the storks gave me to my parents 'cause mom was getting really sad that she couldn't order any babies! That's why I don't look like dad or mom, 'cause I was for different people!" Funneh smiled, the gap where a front tooth was missing showing.
"I'm sorry those other people cancelled their order, Funneh but I'm glad you got to make your mom happy again!" Rainbow gave her a tight hug making her a bit short of breath.
"Its ok! I feel bad for my almost mom and dad though, 'cause I'm awesome!" the raven haired girl shrugged, making both Rainbow and Gold giggle.
"How about you Gold?" Rainbow asked as they both turned to her.
"I dunno. But I'm definitely gonna ask mommy and daddy when I get home!" She declared determinedly.
Funneh thinks that they're all gonna be great friends.
It was the last day of school.. It always is.
It had been two years since she'd met Gold and Rainbow, and It's been one year since they'd all met Alec and Kyran.
Funneh stared at Gold, lost in thought, shortly after the boys arrived she started wearing a cloth over her eyes that she never took off but she insisted it wasn't because of them.
As if she had eyes on the back of her head, Gold's head swivelled around. The two stared at eachother for a few awkward seconds before Funneh finally spoke up. "Is that a bug in your hair?"
Gold instantly panicked, she started flailing around like a crazy person, it made Funneh unable to control her giggles watching the scene unfold.
Alec quickly plucked the leaf from Gold's hair and showed it to her, effectively calming her down, Funneh still redfaced from her laughing fit didn't notice the brunette glaring at her, "you suck, Funneh!" Gold stuck her tongue out and crossed her arms.
Funneh smiled knowing she didn't mean it, "I never said there was a bug in your hair, I asked you if the leaf was a bug." She snickered and Gold pouted, clearly not impressed.
A low growl came from Rainbow surprising Funneh. She'd just been making flower crowns with Kyran and she would never growl at him like that 'cause he'd probably pee himself Funneh thought.
Looking over to where the two were sat, she saw the problem. Kyran's flower crown was crushed under Jacob's foot, that sly grin etched onto his face, but unlike last time he wasn't alone, there were two other wolf boys at either side of him.
The other three were by their friends' sides immediately. Alec pushed Jacob off the flower crown harshly, making him stumble back. "You're such a jerk Jacob!" Funneh yelled, blocking Kyran out of view as Gold comforted him.
The raven haired girl could hardly blink before Jacob's minions both jumped on Alec, biting and scratching at him.
Funneh shrieked as she tried desperately to pull them off, only starting to succeed when Rainbow joined her, not realising she left Kyran and Gold alone.
Jacob's smug smile grew. "You're such a crybaby! I can't believe you need a girl to protect you!" His barks of laughter became louder.
He walked closer, cornering the two. "You're such a bully! You're j-just mad 'cause none of the girls like you!" Gold spat out, hugging Kyran closer.
Jacob's ears twitched and his face reddened. "W-well I wouldn't like you any b-because you're ugly and that's why you cover your stupid eyes!" He reached towards them and Kyran hid in Gold's shoulder to brace for the impact.
The flimsy fabric was yanked instead.
Jacob's smirk wiped off his face in an instant. Starting from his fingers his veigns started turning gold following up his arms and leading up his neck to his eyes then it expanded . the whites of his eyes turning solid gold. Screams of excruciating agony slowly died down as the golden virus replaced his lungs.
Jacob gripped his head as his lip wobbled, crimson leaked out of his ears as the venom took over his brain, replacing it with gold.
When the rest of the kids turned around at Jacob's screams.. They didn't.. They..
Someone threw up, maybe multiple people did? Funneh didn't know. It was like she wasn't really there.. Like she didn't really see it happen..
She vaguely acknowledged Gold was crying. It would better if she didn't see it happen either..
Rainbow was the one who puked. She wouldn't've if she didn't see it happen. Funneh didn't realise she was home until she was sandwiched between her parents, hugging her so tightly they could challenge Rainbow.
It would be better if she forgot.
It would be better if they all forgot.
That night Funneh, Rainbow, and Gold all forgot.
