This Unforgettable Night

Summary:

Silver The Hedgehog is the self-proclaimed biggest Amy Rose fan. He’s more casual about it though, truthfully. Finally being able to go to one of her concerts, it’s a dream come true. Yet the number one fan ends up getting more than he bargained for when he’s kicked out and lands in a garbage bin.

Chapter 1: The Astronomer

Chapter Text

Silver gasped for air as he made it through the tight walls of people shouting and cheering all around him. He had found a temporary ‘calmer’ area of the crowd. Though he could still feel the hot breath of the person behind him hitting his neck. He was overheated enough by the body heat of everyone, but with hot air being blown onto him and his own bodily features suited for colder environments? He was practically on fire.

“In your eyes I see a future so bright..”

But the sound of her voice can ignite an entirely new fire in him.

The stage is lit up with pink, blue, and purple spotlights. All on three divided sections of the same stage.

“With you beside me, everything's just.. right.”

Silver tries to get a better view of the stage but can’t with so many people going crazy in the way. He just had to end up in the back didn’t he? The hedgehog tries to move forward again just a couple feet but is immediately sucked in by the tight knit of people once again. This had to be some kind of hazard.

“Our hearts are beating fast, our bodies so close, I won’t waste this chance..”

Silver finally decides to step all the way to the back of the crowd. Everyone around him is cheering as his back hits the wall. Almost everyone is pushing to the front. He takes a deep breath in. He hears nothing but her voice surrounding all corners of the arena.

“Oh, in the middle of the night, this unforgettable night! You leave me wanting more, I just can't deny!”

The stage illuminates a pink hedgehog as she officially begins her song. Teal and purple streaks become enhanced in between her baby pink quills. Glittery parts of her skirt become ten times more shiny and her frilly ends of her sleeves begin to bounce.

The spotlight is on her and at her side, her dancers. She begins a cheerful and happy movement of her arms while she walks slowly to the left side of the stage. Her smile is ever evident. Her backup dancers follow her lead, forming a line behind her as they dance with her. She spins around, her outfit coming truly together to glimmer in the light. To make her look beautiful.  Her white and pink boot stop her spin as she turns to the dancer behind her and they spin her again, passing her on to the next dancer in line.

“And when I pull away from you, it’s an ongoing war..”

The next dancer gently grabs her and follows the pattern, as do the others as she ends up on the right side of the stage now. The popstar keeps her voice steady, despite all the spinning and moving around.

Silver's eyes are nothing else but glued on to her. Amber eyes watching her every move, taking in every lyric, every pause, every breath. It’s all being experienced in one single moment. The more he tries to take in of her, the more he loses her. More and more bodies are blocking and more and more he loses sight of her.

Silver attempts to jump up yet right as he does, a certain huge purple cat blocks his view. Just what he needed. Silver finds his back pushed against the wall once more, he grunts and angrily turns around, ready to bash his head into it.

“I swear I’m going to–“ He freezes. He looks up.

A large bobcat looks down at him. He is dressed in a very distinguishable blue. With a very distinguishable shiny hat. And a most certainly distinguishable angry face.

“I am so sorry. I thought–“

“Where’s your ticket?” The towering cat asked. His voice was just as you expected, deep and grueling.

Silver immediately began to fiddle around his jacket, then his pants, even his thick chest fur. The security guard only sneered.

“I’m sorry sir, I don’t think I have my ticket!” The hedgehog let out an almost laughable nervous tone. He flashed the cat a toothy smile, hoping it would coat the growing anxiety. Silver pats the sides of his hips. “B-But I’ll find it! It’s probably here somewhere-”

Silver gulps down the little dignity he had. And got on his knees, beginning to ‘look around’ for his non-existent ticket. He didn’t care, though. He would do anything to be able to stay and just watch her.

The bobcat ignores the grand pity show Silver is displaying as he swiftly picks him up just like a cat from his back, and begins to walk towards two metal doors. Silver drops the act in an instant and his body grows cold in an instant.

“No- No! Wait! Let me find the ticket, please! Put me down!”

The security only grunts. Silver begins to trash around like crazy, whipping around and grunting. He tries to shove, he tries to punch, which fails, he tries everything. Nothing works. Looking around to anything, anyone, he gets a glance of the radiant gem on stage. Just between two silhouettes of fans, there she is.

She lets her backup vocals sing as she scarcely touches the tips of her front row fans with her own gloved. Always that warm welcoming smile she wears.  He doesn’t notice how he stops putting up a fight, letting himself grow at ease at just a glimpse of her. For a second, he swears their eyes lock onto one another.

How stupid of him.

Before he can linger on the shared moment, he loses what he believed was the look of her sharp emerald eyes. And his face hits what he believes is cold metal.

His face is inflamed with pain in an instant. Mostly on his nose. The bobcat towers over him, before his face disappears with a scowl. He walks back inside the large building with heavy steps, slamming two doors behind him. Silver sighs.

Said nose that was hurt is filled with a horrendous stench.

“Ew..He didn’t have to be so mean about it.” Silver makes his way through the garbage bin, stepping on gooey and smelly bags containing who knows what. He fights back the urge to barf and add more stench to the bin.

Silver steps his way out of the garbage bin, almost falling over. So much for going to his favorite artist’s concert. His old crushes concert.

Silver The Hedgehog was never a romantic type. He cared more about his grades and being a good older brother to his little sister, Marine. Silver wasn’t just a family guy, he cared about his friends as well. His friend group consisted of his best friends, Blaze, Sonic, Shadow.. Plenty more people. Tangle was secretly his favorite amongst them.

Silver kicked the garbage bin, immediately regretting it.

But there was always a girl who stuck out to him. She never directly talked to her, only ever with friends around. But even then, it was all chaste. He didn’t have much of a reason to ever talk to her. After all, she was Sonic’s girlfriend.

Until she wasn’t.

The pink hedgehog had distanced herself after the breakup. From what he heard, it wasn’t a good breakup. And he knew it wasn’t considering how he would catch her eyes, all puffy and swollen. She threw herself more into her studies, it was saddening.

Silver’s crush had been developing for years. She was cute, yes, but what really got to him was how her entire being of acting was. He’d heard stories of how courageous she was, always putting everyone else above her. She was beyond kind, beyond intelligent. It was captivating to him, all of her. Her looks were just a bonus.

He remembers seeing her and all of his friends grow up, each into their own person. Sonic and Shadow would pursue jobs in the medical field. Knuckles the army, Blaze a lawyer, and even his little sister would begin to scope out colleges.

But Amy Rose? She always stook out didn’t she?

From her pink fur to her fashion sense, to the way she talked and presented herself. Silver loved it all. Silver couldn’t get enough of it. If she were an ocean, he would swim in her endlessly. A city, he would stay in all day.

She was an experience he couldn’t wait to have.

Except, deep down he knew he would never. She had pursued the career of a famous idol. And he? An average firefighter. Well, not yet at least. He was still in training. And definitely still lanky.

Compared to Amy, he was just an average guy. Nothing special, nothing interesting. For such a person, it could be only nature that we wanted nothing more than the stars. And Amy was that star.

Silver sighed once again, deeply. Sure, he had snuck his way into an idol’s concert like a weird stalker but he had hope. He just wanted to get to know her. See if the infatuation he’s had about this girl would lead to anything. And even if it didn’t, he just wanted to be something to her. A friend, a colleague, a recognizable stranger, anything.

The hedgehog sat down at the steps of which the bobcat entered. His eyes found their way up to look at the dark sky. Filled with stars, all twinkling above him. Silver could hear the loud cheers of fans inside, the quiet revs of motorcycles in the street, some cat meowing. This part of town was surprisingly quiet.

Silver hears something small hit the cement and land in front of him. It was a small rock. Clacking of boots hitting against the ground becomes evident and makes a twitch in Silver's ear.

He turns to the sound source, terrified for a second that it’s another security guard. The footsteps halt suddenly, with a soft gasp accompanying.

His eyes widen at the sight of his star, seemingly fallen from the sky.
