   Summary

   Maybe there’s some truth to that. Maybe there’s some starved, angry dog scratching at the back of her throat, snarling with its maw agape. The same dog that muzzles itself with a refusal to abandon its loyalties entirely. And Dazai, that wickedly smart woman with greasy hair and a sleazy smile, never lets that damn mutt be forgotten.

   The cigarette burns hotter, and her stomach aches.

   Chuuya kicks her partner in the knee. Dazai’s yelp is mixed with a witch-like laugh. “You’ve got to learn how to shut the fuck up.”
