Work Text:
“Why the fuck did Addams send YOU a 911 text?” Bianca asked, her breath quick as she ran after Yoko.
It was a late night in autumn, and the moon had just reached its full when Yoko had received a cryptic message from the raven. Last she knew of her whereabouts, she had offered to take Enid to the lupin cages. The wolf was always anxious before wolfing out, compared to her other werewolf classmates, she was still relatively new to the experience.
“How the fuck am I supposed to know? I didn’t even know that girl had a phone or how she got my number for that matter,” Yoko shouted over her shoulder. The two girls heard a faint howl in the distance, one that either of them could recognize within a heartbeat, it was Enid’s.
*Ping*
Yoko pulled out her phone, the screen blinding the vampire. It was another text from Wednesday.
[1:08] Wednesday Addams shared location with you.
"Damn, she’s deep in the woods,” Yoko said, slowing to a stop. She turned to show the approaching siren, passing the phone.
“Why the hell would they even be in that area? The lupin cages are in the basement of the school,” Bianca said out of breath as she zoomed in on Wednesday's location.
The seer was deep into the forest outside of Nevermore Academy. Hardly anyone ventured out into the forest, especially not at night. There had always been rumors about spirits of past students who haunted the forest, always on the prowl for their next victim.
The girls continued running, unknown to what would greet them when they arrived. It was eerily quiet, only the sound of the crunching leaves beneath their shoes as they continued deeper into the woods. Scenarios jumbled in Yoko’s mind, was Enid the one in danger? If so, what creature would be putting a werewolf in peril? Or was it Wednesday? Had Enid lost control and turned on the small girl? Nothing could be known from the vague texts the raven had sent her.
A while passed before they heard another low growl, but this time it was unfamiliar and louder. Bianca shot Yoko a concerned look when suddenly, an ear-splitting snarl startled both of them. The girls ducked down to the dirt floor. A loud crack rang throughout the still air, then a low whine.
The girls paused, looking at each other, too scared to move. Yoko’s heart was hammering in her ears as she started to get up. It seemed like the commotion was over and they were right on top of where Wednesday's location bubble was.
When Bianca joined Yoko, they both couldn’t believe their eyes. They were standing in an open clearing where there lay a dead wolf, lying up against a boulder. And then, on the opposite side, they spotted Wednesday and Enid.
Except Enid was in her werewolf form, and Wednesday was trapped, smothered in the wolf’s arms. Enid was sitting on the forest floor, back leaned against a large tree. On the inside of her large frame was the tiny raven, her body wrapped tightly in the wolf’s arms.
Yoko’s mouth hung open, her jaw completely slack as she looked at Bianca.
“Oh my god, Addams, you look ridiculous,” Bianca snorted, pulling out her phone to snap a picture of the ordeal, Yoko doing the same.
“Once I am free from Enid’s clutches, I am going to sever that head of yours and let Enid feast upon it.” Wednesday retorted, her voice slightly muffled by the werewolf’s fur.
Enid seemed to be in some sort of protective trance, her fangs bared, each breath she took elicited a deep, low growl from her chest. The wolf’s eyes were shot open, darting between Yoko, Bianca, and the lifeless wolf on the ground.
“So this…” Yoko said, raising an eyebrow while gesturing to the scene in front of her, “Is that why you sent the 911 text?”
“Wow. You really had to use your critical thinking skills for that observation, didn’t you?” Wednesday began “Yes, when we returned from break, I offered to take Enid into the forest to wolf out instead of being confined into a cage. It helped her be more comfortable-”
"Aw, so you do have a heart,” Bianca interrupted, pouting out her bottom lip. She was greeted with a violent stare from the small girl.
“Like I was saying... We came to this opening that Enid liked when that... mutt attacked us. Enid had already shifted, so the dog was mainly targeting me, the smaller target. That’s when Enid defended me, but she seems to be caught in some sort of trance. I don’t think she recognizes we’re safe now.”
“Huh,” Yoko blinked. "Well, I brought some stuff with me in case Enid was freaking out.” Yoko finished reaching for the sling on her hip.
As the vampire started pulling out items, Bianca inched forward towards the pair across the opening, maybe if she could get close enough, she could siren them out of this. Immediately Enid snapped her jaw, tugging Wednesday in closer to her chest.
“Not helping Barclay,” Wednesday's flat tone was muffled by the fur even more.
“Hm… I think I'm gonna try something new this time,” Yoko said, a smirk spreading across her face. In her hands was an all-black hoodie, clearly not belonging to Enid. “I snagged it on the way out,” Yoko finished, throwing Wednesday a wink. The unamused look on the small girl's face sent chills down the vampire's spine.
“Next time you lay a finger on my things it will be the last thing you do,” Wednesday threatened.
“Actually,” Yoko started “It was on Enid’s bed,” the vampire retorted, a fang showing through her smile.
There was no quip from Wednesday this time, just a quiet huff and an eye-roll.
“Okay, here take these,” Yoko said, handing Bianca the black hoodie. Bianca raised her eyebrows, surely that hoodie was not Enid’s, she thought to herself. “Hopefully we won’t have to use that one,” Yoko said, answering the unasked question in the air.
Yoko had a small, crumpled, faded blanket in her hands. It was Enid’s standard pink with little half-crescent moons scattered across the worn fabric. Naturally, Yoko already had a go bag for Enid in case anything were to go wrong while she was in wolf form. Enid had given her permission to hold onto her baby blanket as well as one of her favorite childhood stuffed animals.
Even though Enid hadn’t wolfed out until recently, her mom had given her advice on how to control her wolf for when the time came. It wasn’t unusual for a werewolf to be on edge during a shift, so it was important to know how to calm down. Apparently, familiar smells and sounds do wonders for a panicked werewolf. The scent has to be one that is familiar, so childhood objects are naturally a given.
Given this information, Enid had packed a small bag for Yoko to hold onto just in case; she always thought it was better to be safe than sorry. What Enid didn’t know was that Yoko had stolen one of Wednesday’s hoodies to stuff in the bag as well.
Slowly, Yoko raised up the blanket as she crept towards the wolf, Bianca following suit. Enid’s snout sniffed with curiosity, her deep growl hesitating. Her large muscles slowly relaxed at the familiarity of the scent, but just when Yoko got within arm's length, the wolf bared its teeth, letting out a visceral growl.
Bianca grabbed Yoko’s shirt, yanking her back, just as Enid’s jaw snapped forward, attempting to take a bite.
“If you could refrain from angering Enid further, that would be preferable,” Wednesday said, her arms resting over Enids.
"Well, I guess we resort to this,” Bianca said, handing over the black hoodie.
Again, Yoko began creeping towards the angered wolf, the hoodie extended as a peace offering. This time Enid recognized the scent almost immediately. Relaxing her arms, Wednesday was now free to walk forward.
The raven hesitated, a bit confused on the matter, but regardless, stepped forward out of Enid's embrace. The cool night air chilled the small girl, she hadn’t realized how warm Enid had been keeping her. The wolf let out a low whine as she looked down at the small girl, saddened by the now-empty space between her arms. Wednesday signaled for the hoodie, and Yoko tossed it over, returning to her spot next to Bianca.
Wednesday pressed the cloth up to Enid, gently petting her snout as she sniffed the hoodie. A quiet huff could be heard as the large wolf slowly laid down on the forest floor, burying her nose into the crumbled fabric. Beside her, Wednesday sighed and sat down next to the wolf, scratching lightly behind her ears.
“Speak of this, and I’ll cut your tongues from your mouth.” Wednesday threatened.
“You’re welcome,” Yoko teased, a smirk growing across her face. She grabbed Bianca's arm and began walking back to the dorms. Once they were far enough away, Yoko whipped out her phone, frantically typing in her password.
“What’re you doing?” Bianca asked, trying to take a glance at the bright screen.
“Oh, I’m blasting these pictures alllll over my Instagram.”
