“Look alive men, as where we’re about to step into, is not of this world.”
Fordo did not sound fazed nor did he mince the words either when it came to describing the mission ahead.
They had all heard the stories, true. But Fordo had read the latest intelligence reports and knew well enough, that whatever tales were told about this place, the truth being far worse in reality than any ghost story ever could be.
Well, Fordo trusted the intel, so no mincing about, right!?
“Ya tryin’ to spook us here, Cap’n?” One of his men, Contra asked with a hint of jest in his tone.
“Have you ever heard me, joking about, anything, trooper?”
“No! Sir!” Contra saluted Fordo.
Not out of fear, but yeah, Fordo could be tough. Some times. Guess always?
The all stood here, at the entrance of the lab they were there to investigate. The place all quiet and dark and sending all those spooky vibes down each of the team members respective spines.
“So, who wants to go in first?” Fordo looked at his men, as none had volunteered, so far.
They all exchanged fear-filled glances with each other with none of them too thrilled to go in there and battle any ghosts or ghouls.
“I’d rather go toe to toe with a battalion of clankers.” On of them, Squeaky whispered, the comment did not going unheard by the Captain.
“Maybe they’re friendly ghosts or whatnots in there? Then you’ll make new friends with them.” The one called Alto jested to his friend.
“Well, maybe whomever is in there really is friendly, or then not. It’s still our job to check this place and trying to figure out what happened to the crew who worked in here.”
Fordo wasn’t about to let a few ghosts scare him as he had his orders. And so, Fordo and his team entered the supposedly haunted building.
*
“There’s nothing or no one here!” Notes, the newest recruit stated frustrated after they had walked the seemingly endless corridors for a very long time checking the place out.
“Well, there is moss and those creepy crawlers at least.” Alto chuckled getting an annoyed sounding grunt in response. “We can always eat them if we run out of food.”
Needless to say, Alto got several angry glances from the rest of the team, even Fordo.
They then walked a little farther, only to be landing at a closed door. Fordo tried to open it, but it did not budge even an inch.
Turning to his specialist for help, the guy to crack and hack any entrances.
“Cello, do your magic in here would you, please.”
“Yes, Cap!”
It took some tapping on the datapad, but Cello was the best at what he did. The door swooshing open soon enough.
“After you, Sir.” Cello bowed to Fordo.
Fordo made a face, but entered the dark room just the same with the rest of his troopers in tow.
Soon enough, the lights started to come on, popping up one by one. The beeps and blips of the machines filling the air with noise soon enough.
“It’s a lab.”
“We can all see that, Bass.”
The team each spread around and started checking the space. But there was nothing there to explain where the lab crew had gone. Nothing out of the ordinary. The lab fully functional though.
Regrouping in the middle of the room, the square mates all looked at each other, confused to say the least.
“There’s nothing here, the whole place is void of any life. The scanners agree too.”
“So, a wild goose chase then?”
“Something like that, yes.”
Just then the lights started to flicker and the eerie sounding noses started all around them.
The team immediately going to fight mode with their blasters drawn.
“What’s that?”
“G-g-g-g-ghosts???”
“Yeah, something like that.” Fordo again, wasn’t all that fazed nor rattled.
Just then, the lights went out completely, the headlights of their buckets being turned on.
“What the kark?”
It was then when they felt it, the cold air, the cackles, the moans filling the space. And then, the rather theatrical words spoken somewhere above them?
“Welcome, to our lab, chosen ones!”
“What the???”
“Who are you?” Fordo demanded the ghosts(?)
“Your worst nightmare.”
They could not see anyone there though.
“I don’t get those.” Fordo told the ghost or whatever flat on. “I sleep rather soundly thank you very much.”
“Is that so… Captain Fordo?”
“How do you…???”
“Cap, it’s a setup!” Cello having been scanning he vicinity urged the others.
“Setup?”
There as a spell of silence, the lot of them more confused than ever!
“Spoilsport!” The ghostly voice stated then.
Then out of the blue, the lights flickered back on. The music started playing and the ‘ghosts’ were revealed.
“Lorne!” Fordo saw his friend standing there with a voice-coder. “I should have known it was you!”
“Happy birthday vod!”
Lorne grabbed Fordo for a tight hug.
The rest of Lorne’s crew making themselves known with smiles as they started handing out drinks for the arrivals.
“Thanks! I think!” But Fordo despite of his slight annoyance could not help but smile at his friend’s antics.
“Come on Fordes, let your hair down a bit and enjoy!” Lorne urged Fordo.
“Guess I have to now.” Seeing his team already was joining in. “But I will get you for this!” Fordo wasn’t that serious though, but yeah, there would be revenge!
“I’m counting on it buddy.” Lorne smirked.
The two friends joining the rest of the clone troopers, the part soon in full swing.
