Work Text:

You sigh and look up at the couple. Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (Rough E.R.), is a burly looking man about the age of 38 he’s currently glaring at Smooth Endoplasmic reticulum (Smooth E.R) a smaller, but no less intimidating woman of the same age.

“What did you just say??” Smooth E.R. spits out

“I said,” Rough E.R said calmly, “I want the ribosomes in the divorce” Smooth E.R. looks like she’s just about ready to strangle Rough E.R so you step in.

“Ok if he gets the ribosomes, we can also make him detoxify the cell, and-“

Smooth E.R jumps in before you can finish, “No I wanted cell detoxification to be my role” she retorts sternly.

“Alright, you do you, I guess,” You mumble as you let out a long, suffering sigh, and continue, “Rough E.R. you get the Ribosomes, Smooth E.R. you can detoxify the cell, who would like to synthesize lipids and metabolize carbohydrates?”

Rough E.R. Speaks up, “I’d like to,”

Smooth E.R. shoots Rough E.R. a glare that can kill a man “Since my ex-husband gets the Ribosomes, I should be allowed to synthesize lipids and metabolize carbohydrates… I do all the work around here anyway” she trailed off with a huff.

Rough E.R. did not look happy with the arrangement.

“It’s not fair,” he said, “Why does she get to do everything”

“Because you get the ribosomes, I wanted the ribosomes,” Smooth E.R Replied petulantly.

“That doesn't mean you get to do everything! Y/N, Tell her! You can’t just leave me with one thing in this divorce-”

“Give me the Ribosomes then!”

“Now, Now” you say, interrupting their squabbling, “You both have some shared tasks, you both still get to compartmentalize the cell, and you get to synthesize membranes, just because they’re different kinds doesn't make them any less important.”

“Fine,” Rough E.R. said angrily, Smooth E.R. refused to look either of you in the eye.

“Good,” You say, grateful to be able to move on, “Now, lets talk about your financial assets,”
