“Enwand wake up, please.” It was currently the hour of good knows when and America was insisting to wake England and France up. He tried going back to sleep and ignoring him but then the kid would get more upset. In a last ditch attempt to get a nice amount of sleep he looked towards France hoping he would take care of it.
Almost like France could tell were England was looking he responded instantly. “Mon amour, if you think I'm dealing with this your delusional. I need my beauty sleep so it's your turn.”
England sighed and sat up to look at the shadow of one of his two children- actually wait, no, both of them were awake. England was so done. “What is it you two? It’s the middle of the night.”
America, who could hear little cries coming from now, started to shake. “The sky is angry at me, she's screaming at Iggy and I don't like it.”
“Angry? Oh- you mean the storm? Love, she's not mad. It's just how the sky works.” England smiled at his son as he pulled him closer patting his head to make him less scared. America seemed unconvinced while Canada hasn't moved at all. “Love, did the storm scare you too.” Canada nodded. “Do you want to sleep here or go back to your room?” Canada shook his head as England gave a confused stare.
“I think he wants a story first.” America said watching as Canada gave another little nod. England had always noticed how when Canada couldn't say something America would help him and when America needed help they could do the same. They always had such a close bond as siblings and England could only hope it would stay that way.
“Alright how about light a candle and we can go downstairs so I can read you an English folktale so we can go to bed,” England suggested getting up and lighting the candle.
“I don't want an English folktale. Your stories are boring.” America responded with a pout on his previously tear stained cheeks that matched his brother.
“What!? My stories aren't boring. No one has better stories than me.”
“Uncle Ireland was better stories,”
“Ireland!? He's rebellious and not a good influence.”
“But he's funnier “
Maybe it was England and America’s ‘argument’ or Canada's loud laughing but someone woke up France because he was now taking it upon himself to be the judge. “Seems like you lost that one.” France laughed picking up Canada who was still grinning widely.
“How about you read the story tonight if you're so smart.”
France grinned and lit another candle from the first one. “I was going to make us some hot chocolate. You can read for the story tonight.”
England sighed and picked up America.
“Piggy back ride?” America asked.
“No” England responded as they headed down stairs and sat on the couch with Canada.
England tried to rescue an Irish fairy tale to tell to the children as America had started to swing his legs back and forth and Canada buried his head into the soft blanket. Then England finally remembered.
“Ok I reimbursed a story and it's one that isn't scary. Do you want to hear it?” England asked and the twins nodded.
“I doubt that it won't give you nightmares but go on,” France yelled from the kitchen.
Canada and America looked and England with slight fear. “Don't listen to you father, he knows literally nothing,” England responded as he started the story. “Once there was a mansion with workers in the kitchen with a myth-”
“Why don't we have workers in our kitchen?” America interrupted.
“Because Iggy is boring” France called again.
“It's because France is our cook.”
“Hey”
“Anyway every night in the kitchen there was a strange clatter from the kitchen and all of the servants were sacred to go in one day-”
“AHHH Papa was right! There's a monster!” America screamed scared again as well as frightening his brother.
“No there's not. A little boy got left in the kitchen and found out it was a donkey “ England responded only to see America immediately laugh at his sentience while Canada gave confused look.
“What's the boys name.” Canada asked with a little head tilt.
“I don’t know, Gorge. And gorge while in the kitchen saw the donkey cleaning. He washed the pans and the floors and everything and then left so when he woke up he went to the head maid and said-”
“What the fuck a donkey can hold a broom and cleaned our kitchen.” America said jokingly as Canada started to giggle again.
“Language. And he did say something aloud those lines. The next night he said he would hide in the kitchen and talk to the donkey.” England continued his story trying to go on without the interruptions.
“How to die step one” Canada stated sarcastically
“He didn't die, he had a conversation and found out that the donkey was cursed and that's why he was cleaning the kitchen every night and that all he really wanted in life was some tea and for his kids to stop instituting the story that they woke him up to hear.”
“England, be nice to your children.” France yelled from the other room macking England think to himself what could be taking him so long.
“Fine, the donkey had been cursed for being lazy in his past life and now he was forced to sleep out in the could so he really anted a blanket.” England continued with his story.
“The next day the servants brought a blanket to the donkey and as the donkey received his gift he stated to walk away and when gorge asked were he was going the donkey told him that the real reason he wanted the blanket was that once he was rewarded his curse was lifted. So gorge had to clean the kitchen every night now instead of a cursed donkey. The end,”
France who had just finished with the coco looked at America and Canada who were fast asleep. “Congrats, even the most absurd stories seem boring when told by you. Hot chocolate?”
And that's were they fell asleep on the couch, in a little pile.
