Day 3 - Fallen leaves

Summary:

Prompt: fallen leaves
Tiva, according to my tumblr notes

Work Text:

He snapped a picture, her face radiant in the early morning sun, small smile tugging at her lips. "Did you find something?"

She looked up with slight surprise, then barely shrugged her shoulders while shaking her head.

"Then why were you smiling?"

The bright smile that appeared seemed to rival the sun's glow. "The leaves are falling."

He briefly glanced at the ground, not at all surprised at what he found there. Some things never change, after all, and trees losing their luster in fall was one of those things.

When he met her gaze once more he realized some things do change. That radiant smile had reached her eyes, making them sparkle with a carefree giddiness he rarely got to witness, but always cherished.

"They always do this time of year."

She let out something between a hum and a sigh, and looked up at the leaves that were still firmly attached to the branches. "I love it." Meeting his eyes once more she said, "You hate it."

Confused at her statement he shot back, "No, I don't."

"You always complain how much harder it is to find evidence because of the leaves."

"That's a factual observation, we’ve been looking down at the ground for almost an hour without finding anything." He turned his head from left to right with exaggeration. "I'm getting a stiff neck."

"A quick massage can fix that."

He raised his eyebrows. "Are you offering?"

She contemplated the question, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Why not."

He grinned widely, some things do change, and for the better.

She held up her hand, stopping his train of thought. "Just your neck."

He chuckled and walked closer. “I don’t know, Ziva, you seem to think I’m pretty irresistible once you get your hands on me.”

Ziva wrinkled her nose, and nodded at the ground. “Not when you just stepped in dog poo.”

Tony lifted his right foot of the ground to inspect the damage. “Ugh, I hate fallen leaves.”
