Dream-Rowan watched him for a moment, her blue-green eyes thoughtful. “You want me,” she said matter-of-factly. “You’ve been telling yourself you can’t have me because you need to focus on the curse. But now the curse is gone. So why haven’t you told me yet?”
A twinge of remorse and worry knotted Halsin's chest. He had imagined telling her so many times. He knew that he should. And yet, every time he thought the moment might be right to tell her what he felt, his words failed him.
“I do not—I am uncertain if it would be welcome,” he admitted. “You offered yourself to me at the tieflings’ party, yes. But wanting to share someone’s bed is quite different from wanting to share in their life.”
Halsin is keeping a secret from Rowan. He is not sure he can keep it any longer.
