Work Text:

Hundreds of miles away, four time zones to be exact, Bradley sat behind Jake, curled up together in front of their hotel room’s fireplace. They were watching the flames lick at the firewood, hearing the crackling of the burned wood while their hearts gradually slowed again in their post-coital bliss.

Bradley chuckled to himself as he thought about how long it had taken them to get to this point. How many countless fights they had. How many missed opportunities. He had thought it would have been after the Uranium Mission as all signs pointed towards it. But they fell apart again and went their separate ways. Yet here they were again, and all it took this time was them accidentally running into each other at the resort they both ended up at to end up back together.

“What’s that about?” Jake questioned, shifting slightly to glance back at him.

“Just thinking about something Phoenix said.”

“Which was?”

“She always said that if you and I just fucked this thing out between us, we’d figure it all out.”

Jake snorted. “Yeah, well, we’re not going to tell her she was right here . . . right, Rooster?”

“She’s my best friend, Seresin,” Bradley replied, hooking his chin on Jake’s bare shoulder lightly beside the sucked-in bruised kiss.

“So?”

“So, I don’t exactly want to lie to her here either. Not to mention, she’s going to figure it out. Either she or Coyote will. We’re not exactly good at hiding our feelings.”

“Speak for yourself. I hid my feelings for you very well, thank you.”

“You basically kept pulling my hair every other second in front of everyone during training back then, Hung-man.”

“Only after you, dear darlin’ of mine, told everyone in the bar that night how good I looked,” quipped Jake. “Might as well have been holding up a sign saying you desperately wanted a piece of my ass, honeybuns.”

“Oh, whatever,” Bradley laughed, lightly shoving him away.

Their bodies, however, crashed back together after a moment, melding as one while light of the flames flickered from the fireplace and bathed them in a soft, warm glow.
