Chapter Text
Villains, heroes, and vigilantes alike. Quite the common sight now a days in the city limits of the Hermits. Some well know and famous, others quiet and secretive, hiding from the public's view. Grian, or CuteGuy, a parrot avian, is among the latter. Keeping to the shadows and staying inconspicuous is among his many talents as a vigilante.
His partner in fighting crime on the other hand, is not so subtle in his approach to save people. Scar, aka Hotguy, a Fae (more specially a forest elf or nymph), is an idle to many and annoyance to most, usually those on the receiving end of his arrows. Or his partner.
How Grian has been able to stay out of the public's view when it comes to working side by side with his flashy counterpart, he has no idea. But that's the least of his worries when it comes to crime fighting, or pranking, depends on the day really.
At the current moment, Grian is scouting out the surrounding area in a rundown part of town, (much like a slum honestly) perched at the top of one of the taller buildings, about 3 stories high. Scar is down below on ground level, trying to find a clue as to where their mission is leading them. Or at least, supposed to be. At the current moment he's preoccupied talking to fans and signing shirts, much to Grian's displeasure.
Sometimes it feels like he's the only one actually on the job at times like this. But he can't complain too much because without Scar, he wouldn't have nearly as good a chance as he did on missions like this. He's honestly not able to keep track of the amount of times Scar's popularity has gotten them out of trouble or even helped them catch a villain or thief. Having a mob watching Scar's every move had been a great way to distract a pursuer or stop a thief from running away.
Speaking of Scar's popularity, the idea that HotGuy has a sidekick is a very common topic, while no one knows anything about CuteGuy regarding his relations with any of the city's heroes, plenty of people have made speculations about HotGuy having some help by his side when on the job. Most of them sprouted due to the limited evidence of there being a mysterious figure always looming over HotGuy in the skies or in the background. Again, while Grian has been able to stay unknown, he can't hide from every camera. There have been a small number of times where he will leave the scene of a crime now solved too late. But he's too far away or too fast for any camera to get a decent picture of him.
All anyone knew, was that there was commonly a second individual with HotGuy and that was about it. Most people think it could be a stalker of some kind watching him from the roof tops, others think it's his girlfriend or romantic partner getting action shots. The second one always made Grian laugh because of how embarrassed it made Scar, but ultimately, he was acting under the publics nose completely unknown.
While thinking about this, Grian has been busy scouting the nearby alleys and streets looking for something shady. Suddenly he hears a yelp of surprise and senses trouble. Scar seemed unbothered though, still signing shirts, which meant that the yelp was only loud enough for avian ears.
Grian looks down at HotGuy, trying to figure out how to get his attention without going down towards him. He finds a pebble in his pocket and tosses it on Scar's head. Then backs up and heads to the sound.
Scar looks up at the disruption to find no one there. He figures that Grian heard something and was checking it out, which he guessed correctly, so Scar pulls his bow off his back and winks to the crowd before jumping up and expertly climbing his way on to roof of the building, going from AC unit to balcony to even windowsills. Arriving on top just in time to see Grian on another rooftop nearby watching the ally below.
Grian was looking down to see exactly what they were looking for. A man dressed in black was holding a bag of sorts and had corned a defenseless lady in the secluded corner. She was backed into the wall as the man had a knife in is other hand, ready to attack.
Grian jumps down into the ally in front of the man, black and white Ombre wings stretched out to block him from getting to the woman. He landed soundlessly, as he stands up from his almost Spider-Man esc pose, he looks at the man with an eyebrow raised. "Hello there, friend" he says with a charming smile, "Mind if I take that bag off your hands, looks heavy."
The man growls at the arrival of uninvited company getting ready to take off as fast as he could. CuteGuy cut him off before he could act though, saying "I wouldn't go anywhere if I were you." In the short time that the man had looked away to find his exit, Grian was able to pull out his bow, knock an arrow, and aim it straight at the guy. "Unless you want an arrow in your heart." He finishes with a wink.
The man drops everything he has in his hands at the moment before putting them in the air as he surrenders, shocking CuteGuy. He expected some sort of fight, or at least a response. Oh well. Grian walks towards the guy, grabbing some rope that was clipped to his belt, tying it around the man's wrists. He picks up the bag and knife the man had dropped and started towards the terrified woman still leaning on the wall trembling.
"Hey, are you alright ma'am?" CuteGuy asks in a concerned voice. The woman simply nods and looks at the man in black before looking at CuteGuy.
"Th-thank y-you." She says in a shaking voice.
"It's no problem at all! Just stay safe, I've got it from here" He replies with a sweet and genuine smile on his face. "You can go now, no need to worry anymore."
The woman looks at him in the eyes with a look of gratitude and relief on her face as she slowly starts walking down the alley to the open street. On her way, she kicks the tied-up man in the groin as a revenge effort before turning the corner and disappearing out of sight. Grian chuckles at her action towards the mysterious man with a sense of pride. He walks back to the now keeled over and groaning man before grabbing his arm (holding the bag and knife in the other) and lifting both into the air onto the roof where Scar seemed to be watching him.
Grian places the man on the roof top, ignoring his yells of shock from being picked up and lifted into the air. He lands as well, once again, silent, as he looks at HotGuy with a smirk on his face, and eyes full of annoyance that it took him so long to show up. "Look what I found." Grian says, shoving the man in front of him making him stumble a bit. Grian also threw the bag on the floor of the roof looking at HotGuy.
"Quite the catch! Didn't even need me to step in for ya." Scar says with a cheeky grin as he put a hand on his hip, inspecting the person CuteGuy had caught, who is currently looking at the floor.
Grian rolls his eyes and scoffs at HotGuy's comment before responding "Oh please, like I would need help from a guy who spends half his life in front of a crowd and the other ranting about TV shows." He poked, walking past scar with nothing more than a glance before heading to the edge of the roof they were on, turning around once he arrived.
"I do more than that!" HotGuy defends himself turning toward CuteGuy.
Before Grian can say anything, the man who was looking at the floor earlier was now looking at CuteGuy with a look of confused shock as he spoke up. "Wait, you're HotGuy’s infamously unknown sidekick?!" A condescending yet interested tone to his voice.
Grian rolled his eyes at the "sidekick" part and felt a little offended at the tone before looking at the man with a level look and a scoff. "Sidekick? No. Sorry love, we're teammates. And yes, I am. Not like you can do anything about it though, as you are a bit," CuteGuy pauses for affect, a smirk on his face "tied up."
At some point, Grian hadn't even noticed till' now, but the man ended up sitting on his knees. So, as Grian spoke he slowly, in a confident and silent stride, walked towards his captive. Leaning down, almost too close to his face, as he stated the last part of his sentence. The man was preparing a pathetic excuse for headbutt as CuteGuy talked, but the bird man had seen it coming a mile away. He stayed in place though, egging the seated man on as he prepared. Then Grian swiftly moved away making the man on the floor almost fling himself face first onto the ground.
HotGuy snickers at his partners antics before thinking back to what Grian said about the crowd. He feels a bit bad, knowing that CuteGuy had a point. Grian crosses his arms looking down at the man, then to Scar with a neutral look on his face, completely unreadable. Scar walks over to join CuteGuy, putting his hands in his pockets.
"Well, mission's over, we can go home once we get this guy to the station." Grian says calm as ever.
"Wait, that's all we had to do?!" Scar being shocked at the simplicity of a job that was supposed to take the entire day according to their employer.
"By we you mean me, and yes, that's all. So, let's hurry up and get out of here." CuteGuy responds, trying to sound lighthearted but the undertone of salt being obvious for someone who's known him for years and years.
Scar frowns at the statement, knowing he messed up, again. Grian had walked away and back to his spot at the edge of the roof top after picking up the bag and knife he left on the ground earlier, waiting for Scar. Scar grabs the man still sitting on the ground by his arm and drags him up on his feet before pushing him to walk in front of him. Grian grabs the man by the arm again when they get to the edge flying him to the ground while scar jumps down the same way he got up before. After walking from ally to ally without a word, and no civilians catching sight of them, the three men arrive at an undercover cop car waiting for them.
HotGuy forces the sketchy man into the back seat as Grian raps around the front to get to the driver's side. Grian hops in half a second before Scar, throwing the bag down where Scar's feet will be and putting the knife in an empty spot on his belt, taking his rose-tinted glasses off and putting on a pair of sunglasses, and putting his hair up in a low ponytail as much as his short hair would allow. Scar takes his hair out of his typical low ponytail, shaking his hair out to put it back in. Once they're situated Grian turns the key to the car and the engine revs up as it starts. And they're off.
