Work Text:
It had been weeks since Adam was defeated in his beef with Langa, and the crew had decided to go on vacation together to the beach. Kaoru and Kojiro had paid for the majority of the trip. The group was staying at a little cottage that had been rented out for the week so everyone could fully enjoy their trip and all the novelties the beach resort offered. It was a much needed vacation after their last failed one that wasn’t an official “family” vacation as dubbed by Reki.
“Don’t forget to put on sunscreen before you go out,” Kojiro recalled with a grin as he tossed Miya the sunscreen. The youngest huffed and begrudgingly took the sunscreen, mumbling something about how he wouldn’t need the sunscreen. Kojiro fondly shook his head. Kids these days. Kojiro loved them anyway. He’d protect them from anything if he could. He flexed his back, grumbling to himself about a cramp.
“Then don’t keep them so tightly folded, you moronic gorilla,” Kaoru huffed, shooting Kojiro a glare as he fidgeted with Carla. She had been acting weird and glitchy lately so he had to fix her up and get her back into proper working condition, despite Kojiro’s protests about the ‘stupid robot girlfriend’.
“But, what if someone sees? Or what if it makes it easier for a monster to show up?” Kojiro argued, glaring at Kaoru. “I’m not putting the kids in danger just because of a cramp.” He winced again as pain flared through his back. “And you call me the dumb one.” He rubbed the feathered tattoos he had on both of his shoulders, hoping to ease the pain.
“Shut it!” Kaoru snapped, pinching the bridge of his nose. “If you knew anything, you’d know I’d never choose this spot if I thought it was infested by monsters. Bring out your damn wings or so help me, I’ll do it myself.” He threw a pillow at Kojiro.
“Hey!” Kojiro shouted, throwing the pillow back at Kaoru. “Geez, alright.” He flexed his shoulders as the feathered tattoos transformed into giant golden wings. The pain relief was immediate as the feathered appendages stretched. He sighed happily yet refused to tell Kaoru he was right. Where was the fun in that?
“I told you,” Kaoru hmpfed with a smug smile on his face.
“Yeah yeah, whatever,” Kojiro rolled his eyes. “There’s not enough room in here to fully stretch them out.” He curled his wings around his body. “The kids are probably waiting at the beach. Put down that thing and go outside in the sun.”
“Her name is Carla!” Kaoru yelled, a tick appearing on his forehead. “Have some respect, you dopey gorilla!” He crossed his arms over his chest and huffed. But, he did get up and put on a comfortable kimono to wear outside. Kojiro had pulled his wings back in as the beach was a public setting. Most wouldn’t be able to see them anyways, but he didn’t want to run into a clear-sighted mortal and cause problems. Kaoru would kill him if something ruined their vacation.
Kojiro grinned and the two went to the beach where Reki, Langa, Miya, and Shadow were. Miya was sitting on a towel under a beach umbrella while Reki was being chased by Shadow in the water and Langa was watching with a disinterested look. Kaoru joined Miya under the umbrella while Kojiro got swarmed by some of the women on the beach. Kaoru grit his teeth watching the women flaunt over his husband, but he knew Kojiro was nothing but loyal.
“LANGA!” Reki shouted as the blue-haired boy innocently (it was anything but innocent) pushed him into the waves. Miya cackled and Shadow pointed at Reki with a loud laugh. Reki’s soaked red hair popped up from the water’s surface and he scoffed. “Oh, it’s on now you traitors!” he laughed before lunging at Langa, dragging him beneath the watery depths.
“Don’t you dare!” Shadow shouted as he started running from both Reki and Langa. Only for them to catch him and dunk him as well. “You cheating brat!” Shadow grabbed Reki by the shoulders and shook him.
“Light travel is not cheating! Dad! Tell Shadow light travel is totally not cheating!” Reki cried after he wriggled out of Shadow’s hold. He ran onto shore and hid behind Kojiro, sticking his tongue out at Shadow who glared at him and promised he’d beat Reki up later.
“Hm?” Kojiro turned away from the two girls he had been talking to. “What’s going on?” He listened to Reki explain, or at least, attempt to explain what had happened and the older skater shook his head. “Like at S, everything goes,” he smirked. Reki cheered and ran back to the water to rub his victory in Shadow’s face.
Kojiro watched everything play out and slowly grinned as an absolutely awful idea that would definitely get him kicked onto the couch for the night appeared in his mind. He glanced over at Kaoru and chuckled nefariously. “Oh, Kaoru,” he said in the sweetest voice he could muster.
“What is it, ape?” Kaoru looked up from his tablet, still trying to fix Carla. Before he could get in another word, Kojiro had picked him up. “Hey! Put me down! You insufferable, moronic, dumb imbecile!” he snapped, struggling to get out of Kojiro’s iron grip. “You—” He gasped as cold water rushed over him. He spluttered and gasped, glaring daggers at Kojiro. “I’m going to kill you!” he growled, dragging Kojiro down into the water.
Kojiro popped out of the water with a hearty laugh. “Ah, well, it got you in the sun, sweetheart.” He dodged a punch. “Aw, where’s the love and appreciation? Ack!” Kaoru tackled Kojiro, holding him beneath the water. By the end of the day, the group had made their way back to the beach house they rented. Kojiro made everyone a delicious dinner.
“Stop moving around!” Kojiri scolded, smacking Kaoru’s shoulder. “Let me put the damn aloe vera on you so it will help!” He applied more of the salve onto Kaoru’s sunburn.
“I wouldn’t be sunburnt if you hadn't dropped me in the ocean!” Kaoru snapped, glaring at Kojiro.
“Why is everyone sunburned?” Reki tilted his head, brows furrowed in confusion.
“Because you were out in the sun and got burned,” Kojiro explained, turning to Reki. “Langa and Shadow didn’t put enough on and Kaoru didn’t put any on as he was in the shade until I dragged him out.”
“So you do admit your wrongdoing,” Kaoru smirked.
“Shut up,” Kojiro huffed.
“But I did put sunscreen on,” Langa murmured.
“You’re supposed to reapply it after a while, slime,” Miya rolled his eyes, playing on his Nintendo.
“You are?” Langa blinked.
Miya groaned and slammed a pillow into his head.
