It's March 18th.
Just two more days until your online best friend's birthday. Just two more days until you get to finally meet your best friend, Yuji Itadori, after 6 years. Six years of texting, calling and FaceTiming almost every single day. Six years of gaming together and being eachothers person.
Of course Yuji doesn't know about this yet. He has no idea what's to take place in just two days. He's always wished to spend his birthday with you and doesn't realize how real that wish is about to become.
The sound of your phone going off startles you from your current focus on packing. You grabbed it from the bed to check who was calling.
Incoming call from Satoru Gojo
You quickly grab your phone and accept the call, mumbling out a "hello".
There was some incoherent mumbling in the background before Satoru's enthusiastic voice came through. "Y/n! Heyyyyy! Are you excited?"
"I'm mostly nervous at the moment but I know once I see him those nerves will turn into excitement. Thank you again for doing this for him. I know a trip like this must be expensive."
"This is for you as well. After all these years you both deserve a chance to meet eachother. And don't worry about the cost of anything didn't even make a dent in my wallet." Satoru explained. There was some annoyed voices in the background but you couldn't tell exactly what they were saying. "Counting I thought it would be better for you to stay at Megumi and Yuji's apartment during your stay here. It would certainly make things easier on you."
Your eyes widened, "Oh no I couldn't intrude on them like that. I can get a hotel close by or-"
"It's all fine. Megumi offered, to my surprise." Satoru interrupted.
"Are you sure? It shouldn't be too hard to find a hotel near by since you guys live in a college town."
Megumi's voice came through the phone this time, "Y/n it's fine. Yuji wouldn't forgive us anyways if we made you stay at a hotel."
You sighed, "Thank you for allowing me to stay with you and Yuji, Megumi." You heard a muffled 'it's fine' before hearing Satoru's overly cheerful words.
"Megumi can just stay with me if it comes down to it and we can have so much fun-"
"Not happening!" Megumi grumbled out causing you to laugh at their exchange.
"I'm excited to finally meet everyone too. It will be nice to finally meet the people who are closest to him." You beamed.
"It will be nice to meet the woman who makes our Kirby so happy." Satoru replied.
A slight blush formed on your cheeks hearing those words. Hearing those words out loud and from someone to close to Yuji was a little overwhelming. It made this surprise even more real.
"Y-yeah... thank you guys again. Meeting Yuji was always such a dream of mine."
"Trust me, he feels the same." Megumi voiced out. The heat from your blush continued to spread.
"I'll have Megumi text you the address and any extra details you might need for your trip. We just wanted to check in."
"Alrighty. I'll see you guys soon then. Bye Megumi. Bye Satoru."
"Bye Y/n!" You heard Satoru say before a familiar voice in the background.
"Did you guys say Y/n?"
The line quickly hung up causing you to laugh at the idea of them quickly coming up with a lie to distract Yuji.
You slumped down next to your luggage and clothes still needing to be packed and took a deep sigh. The nerves setting in more and more after that phone call. You clenched the phone in your hand for some slight release secretly wishing you could just text your best friend. He always calms you down.
It was as if he knew. Your phone buzzed. You look and saw a text from Yuji. You mentally reminded yourself to change the emoji for his name before seeing him.

You smile at your phone remembering to change his contact emoji before turning it off and placing it next to you. Even that small conversation with him set you a bit at ease. He was your comfort no matter the circumstance.
He always knew how you were feeling. He called it his best friend alarm. From over 2,000 miles away he's always gotten weird tingles through his body whenever you were upset, angry, or just whenever something was wrong. Nerves seemed to be included in that.
You loved the dorky stuff that came with him. He was your light. Over the years you knew that best friend wasn't enough to describe what he was to you. He was your person. He was your other half. Yuji was your world.
These feelings you never discussed with him out of fear of losing the one person you truly held deep in your heart. You would rather stay best friends than strangers. It was hard enough being across the country from eachother.
Your phone rang next to you, clearing your thoughts. You flipped the phone over looking to see who could be calling you now.
Incoming call from Yuji
You answered the phone, instantly hearing your best friends voice. A smile appeared on your face.
"N/n what are you doingggggg?" Yuji whined. You laughed at his childish behavior.
"I'm laying down right now. I'm pretty tired. Are you bored?"
"Very. And I'm still convinced you lied to me and aren't okay." Yuji grumbled out.
"Well if it makes you feel any better texting you and hearing your voice made me feel better."
Yuji hummed before responding. "That does make me feel a bit better... but that still means something was wrong."
"Was. Key word. Was."
"Don't get all technical on me. I care about you and I worry. But as long as I made you feel better than I am very happy."
"Good dummy. You excited for your birthday?"
Yuji shifted on the other end most likely to get comfortable. "Mhm. Everyone is coming to the apartment to play games and eat pizza. Just like being with people." You smile at his words.
"That sounds like fun. I bet it's gonna be a great birthday." You commented.
"I guess." Yuji whispered out. You caught his words and a confused look appearing on your face.
"You guess? What do you mean by that? It sounds like you have some fun plans." You questioned.
"Yeah but you won't be there." Yuji mumbled out. You had to stop yourself from giggling at his words to not accidentally let out the secret. You would in fact be there
"Yuji, you are gonna have a great birthday. You don't need me there with you to have a great time. Counting I'll FaceTime you and text you the whole day. I gotta keep the birthday boy happy."
"But the day would be perfect if you were there..." Your heart swelled at his words. He has no idea how such small words can affect you so greatly. How does he say them so casually?
You fiddled with your hands as you responded, "Just pretend I'm with you the entire time. You still have the bracelet I gifted you a couples years back right?"
"I wear it everyday." Yuji's words yet against making your heart scream. His words coming out so casually and yet having such big effect. This man is going to make you go crazy.
"Pretend that the bracelet is me and that I'm with you okay. Since the bracelet is handmade it has my energy built into it." You reassured him.
"But Y/n..." there was a slight pause before Yuji continued, "I already pretend the bracelet is you everyday."
Your eyes widened. You quickly muted yourself before and squealed, practically kicking your feet. Yuji Itadori... the man that you are. Your face was beat red and your heart was fluttering like crazy.
You took a moment to calm down before unmuting yourself.
"Awww Yuji. I promise one day I'll be with you for your birthday." You cooed.
Yuji sighed through the phone, "It better be more than just one day."
"I promise."
Yuji seemed content with your answer letting a comfortable silence wash over the both of you. The sound of eachothers breathing being a comfort to the both of you.
You looked around you at the still unpacked clothes you had and mentally groaned. You definitely need to finish that.
"Hey Yuji..."
"No not yet."
You laughed at his quick response, allowing yourselves a little more time to just eachothers presence even if it was only virtually.
"Yuji"
"Y/n."
"I'm gonna finish up some stuff before I go to bed. I'm really tired."
"What stuff? Can I stay on the phone with you while you do it?" Yuji persisted.
"Not today Yuji. You know I'd get distracted and never get to bed."
"I know, I'm just really bored and miss my best friend. AND BEFORE YOU SAY ANYTHING I KNOW WE TALK EVERYDAY," There was a pause as Yuji contemplated on if he wanted to persuade you or let you do what you needed too, "I guess I'll let you go... if you want..."
"I never wanna actually leave the call Yuji. But I hope you sleep well."
"Goodnight Y/n. If you can't sleep please callll meeee"
"Always. Goodnight Yuji."
You quickly hung up before he could have a chance to protest. If he started you knew you wouldn't be able to say no to him and would end up being on the phone for hours and hours. The packing wouldn't get done and sleep would have been an hour or less.
You spent the next two hours finishing up your packing and making sure you had everything you needed. Triple and double checking everything.
You grabbed the handmade presents you've made Yuji and put them in your carry on. You made a stuffed worm from his favorite movie and another bracelet that matches the one you made yourself. You also added a hoodie you bought him, putting it in the carry on as well.
Once you were finished you placed your bags by your bedroom door knowing you only had one more day left. That day was going to be the longest day you've ever experienced but knowing the end result will be worth it.
You picked up your phone to check the time seeing a text from Megumi.
Megumi: here's the address *****. Text me when you land and I'll get you an Uber. Keep us updated on your travels too.
You closed your phone and finally laid down in your bed. Your body relaxing once your head finally hit the pillow. The days nerves and stresses slowly started to ease away as your body gets closer and close to slumber. You smile as you think of one last thing before you are consumed by your exhaustion.
