Summary
Nobody at NERV could deny that the newest pilot had some weird quirks and tendencies to him. Misato called him “strange and off-putting,” but only to Kaji and Ritsuko when she thought Shinji couldn’t hear. Toji and Kensuke considered him a friend, but they often came to Shinji with the strangest stories about the boy.
“He’s never played video games before, man!” Kensuke sighed one afternoon.
“He told me he ain't ever eaten a sandwich before. A sandwich. An’ I thought he was kiddin’ but nope. He was fascinated.” Toji was bewildered.
“I watched him eat an orange with the peel still on it the other day. Bit right through it like an apple. I asked him why and he said he had always done it like that, and actually liked the peel.” Kensuke again.
“My cell phone rang an’ he damn near passed out from excitement. From m’ ringtone.” Toji. “He was baffled that I had somethin’ in m’ pocket that could make music.”
Shinji Ikari… wasn’t sure how he felt about the boy.
