LOCAL NEWS: KARASUNO HIGH SCHOOL SOARS ANEW
January 28th, 2013
This weekend, Karasuno High school’s men’s volleyball team took to the national courts in Tokyo, Japan. Despite heavy favor by fans for Shiratorizawa Highschool to return, Karasuno shocked everyone by beating them in the qualifiers and surviving three whole rounds before getting eliminated during their fourth game against Kamomedai High School.
Sources say one of Karasuno’s starting players was removed halfway through the game. “I’m not sure what happened,” the source – who has requested to stay anonymous – said, “but it looked like [the player] wasn’t feeling so well. Shame, you could tell he was a cornerstone for the team. Poor guy looked sad.”
“That’s true,” another anonymous source agreed. “But I think his friend helped him out…some other dude talked to him for a bit and he left the stadium looking a lot better. Like, his head was high. They were such a powerful duo.”
Karasuno has since returned home, and we hear they’re slated to participate in a few practice matches before the season officially ends. Hopefully, they come back even stronger next year…it’s looking like Karasuno – and their dynamic duo – are going to be some serious contenders in the future!

LOCAL NEWS: KARASUNO HIGH SCHOOL TO SOAR ONCE AGAIN
October 12th, 2013
Karasuno High School’s men’s volleyball team has once more beaten the odds and qualified for the Spring Tournament. They suffered a difficult loss against Date Tech High last June, but they didn’t let that stop them – cruising to a safe 3-1 set win against Shiratorizawa High School in the qualifiers.
As expected, their numbers 9 and 10 dealt devastating blows on their opponents, using their unmatched teamwork to score Karasuno almost a quarter of their points.
“You wouldn’t believe what they pulled off on that court,” one spectator told us. “It was unbelievable – you’d think they can read eachother’s minds or something.”
“They’re incredible,” another spectator said. “Seriously. I’ve never seen a pair quite as in tune with one another as them.”
The dynamic duo is quickly growing in popularity, and they’re only getting better. We know their opponents hate to see them coming!

Interview with captain of National Championship school Karasuno High School –Yamaguchi Tadashi

Haruno: Hello! You’re Yamaguchi Tadashi, captain of Karasuno, yes?
Tadashi: Yep, that’s me!
Haruno: Wow. What an amazing season you’ve had this year. What does it feel like, being here now?
Tadashi: Oh, incredible. My team and I have put in so much effort to come this far, and it means the world that we got to play on these courts. It’s my final year, y’know? So I really wanted to make an impact.
Haruno: I can imagine. You must be proud of your players, huh?
Tadashi: Indeed. Endlessly.
Haruno: And what about your famous numbers 2 and 5, Kageyama Tobio and Shouyou Hinata? I understand they’re in their third and final year along with you, right?
Tadashi: Oh yeah, that’s them. They’re such a handful, but they’re my ride or dies. Clearly, they’ve taken us really far.
Haruno: Definitely! It’s gotta be tough, being in charge of such a high-ranking team.
Tadashi: Oh I wouldn’t really say I’m in charge of them.
Haruno: No? How so?
Tadashi: Well, you see, I’m far from a volleyball prodigy. With players like Tobio and Shouyou on my side, and middle blockers like Kei and Kaito – he’s one of our second years – and the cast of incredible first years our recent wins have attracted, I’m pretty average.
Haruno: Oh no, you’re incredible!
Tadashi: *laughs* Thank you, but I didn’t mean to be self-deprecating! I just meant that my team carries me rather than the other way around. The only reason I’m so confident is because I know they have my back.
Haruno: Must be comforting having powerhouse players like number 2 and number 5, huh?
Tadashi: Oh, definitely. You want to know a secret?
Haruno: Please.
Tadashi: They’re actually, like, best friends. Like they’re literally attached at the hip at school. Which you’d never guess seeing them on the court together.
Haruno: Oh my god, for sure. I figured they must be close as teammates, but I didn’t know they were such good friends. They bicker so much!
Tadashi: For sure. It drives us crazy, even the first years, who always feel like they’re obligated to respect them anyway.
Haruno: Are they?
Tadashi: Pfft. No.
Haruno: Ah. I can imagine, haha.
Tadashi: They respect each other enough for the rest of us I think.
Haruno: What does that mean?
Tadashi: Well, ever since they first met, they’ve always supported one another in every way. In games, during training camps, even at school – on and off the court, they always believed in the other’s abilities and trusted each other enough to still challenge and push each other to go above and beyond. Which is what they need, really. They’re both such competitive people. I’m sure that’s a huge part of the reason why they’re so strong now.
Haruno: Really? Awe, that’s pretty sweet actually.
Tadashi: *laughs* Oh, yeah. Definitely. But don’t tell them I said that, okay?
Haruno: *smiles* Absolutely, captain.
LOCAL NEWS: KARASUNO HIGH SCHOOL – NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
January 30th, 2015
It seems this team is full of surprises – not only did they qualify for the Spring Tournament once again, they also placed top three in the whole nation, besting Miyagi records and earning themselves a permanent spot amongst the stars of Tokyo’s orange courts.
Their dynamic duo – now in their final year – made a name for themselves, proving once and for all that they are not to be trifled with. Earning a total of 47 points together throughout all their matches, they truly have shown they are the best of the best.
“I couldn’t take my eyes off of them,” 14-year old Kiyi Suzuki told us excitedly, after the final award ceremony. “They were so amazing, it’s like they have the same head! They know exactly where to go and when to go to pull off such precise moves, I was screaming so much!”
“I think I almost pooped my pants when they pulled off that quick attack,” another spectator – who has requested to stay anonymous – said. “Like, I’ve seen it before, but it just keeps getting cooler every time I see it. They really are made for eachother.”
After securing third place in an intense final game, the two players in question were seen embracing near the entrance to the stadium with tears in their eyes. The rest of their team was spotted waiting at the other end of the hallway.
What a bittersweet end to the season. We can’t wait to see what Hinata Shouyou and Kageyama Tobio cook up next!

In a world like this, that is a gift greater than any amount of gold someone could throw at you.
You’ll have a hard time at first. That I can guarantee. But we’re all here for you, and whenever you feel lonely, think of us. Think of home. Think of Kageyama, because I know he meant the world to you, and clearly you meant so much to him as well for him to have had a freak out about you leaving lmao.

NOTÍCIAS LOCAIS (LOCAL NEWS) – BEACH VOLLEYBALL MAKING WAVES!
This weekend Copacabana Beach held a grand tournament for Rio’s booming beach volleyball scene, amassing over 500 players, spectators, and coaches in a huge event that lasted well into the night. Not only were their matches for professional teams – there were also side games and events in place for locals and less experienced players. What a lovely display of community!
One of said “less experienced players” caused quite a stir from the sidelines despite not participating in the official matches. The redhead Japanese prodigy named Shouyou Hinata was apparently quite the powerhouse back in high school, with an impressive reputation and a set of skills fruitful enough to back it up.
We asked him what he thought of Brazilian beach volleyball so far.
“It’s great!” He told us after finishing (and winning) an exciting fourth match of the day. “I mean, I can’t lie…As a middle blocker, I’m struggling a lot with the sand. And I miss home. But I promised to beat someone super special one day, and this is what I have to do to achieve that, so I’m going to stick it out! I think I’m getting the hang of things, anyway.”
Who is this “someone special” we wonder? We’ll have to wait and see!

NOTÍCIAS LOCAIS (LOCAL NEWS) BREAKING!!! – NINJA SHOUYOU ON THE RISE!
As many locals know, the one and only Hinata Shouyou has been making waves in the beach volleyball scene for quite some time now – having come to Rio de Janeiro almost two years ago to strengthen his skills and better his teamwork (ref. our 1-on-1 interview with HINATA SHOUYOU: A Rising Champion). The training has very much paid off, seeing as he participated in the recent Solcard Cup hosted on Ipanema Beach, and made it all the way to the finals.
Despite losing, he still played an incredible game – one that even resulted in his partner, the one and only Heitor Santana, getting engaged. We approached him after his game to ask him about his plans for the future, to which he dropped a bombshell on us:
“I’m going back home to Japan in around three months,” he said, smiling sheepishly. “I want to tryout for something a little bigger than this – not that there’s anything wrong with this – but it was always my goal to play on a Division 1 level in my home country, and I still need to fulfill my end of the promise I made to my friend!”
Hinata has mentioned this “special friend” of his in almost every single one of our interviews with him. To this day, we wonder who that special someone could be? Perhaps we’ll find out when he’s back in Japan, taking the world by storm!

Interview with new starting player of the MSBY Black Jackals before MSBY vs. Adlers DV1 match – Shouyou Hinata

Akabane: Wow, what an honour to get to speak with you! How are you feeling, Hinata-san?
Hinata: I feel great! How are you?
Akabane: I’m wonderful, thank you. So – it’s your first ever official game playing in a league of this caliber. I can imagine that, while I’m sure it feels great to be here, you must be a little nervous, huh?
Hinata: *Laughs* Okay, you caught me. I am definitely kind of nervous.
Akabane: Understandably so! But you’ll do absolutely amazing things out there – I’ve seen videos of your training on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, and I have to say, I’ve never seen a player move quite like you. I have to ask, what was it like switching from indoor, to outdoor, and then back to indoor so abruptly?
Hinata: It was definitely a huge adjustment at first. Beach volleyball accounts for things you’d never have to think about on an indoor court, like the direction of the wind, the strength of the wind, the fact that there are only two players on the court…and don’t even get me started on the fact that the ground is uneven. But – what I learned more than anything else in Brazil – is that the sand, though harsh, is kind. And that mentality can be applied to anything in life, including indoor volleyball. It’s all about strategizing and taking advantage of your environment.
Akabane: Such a well thought out answer! I can tell the beaches taught you a lot.
Hinata: For sure!
Akabane: Do you miss it?
Hinata: So much. But my goal was always to be here, to play for my home country – and I’m just so happy to be back. I want to prove to the people who believed in me since I was nothing that their faith hasn’t gone to waste.
Akabane: And your promise? I heard there’s a special someone here you’re dying to make proud.
Hinata: Ah, yeah. Indeed. He’s been by my side since day one.
Akabane: Will your fans get to meet him one day?
Hinata: Haha! What do you mean? My fans should already know him.
Akabane: Oh, really? So he’s a volleyball player as well?

So Hinata mentioned years ago when he was still in Brazil that there was “someone special” he wanted to beat at home, and when he got back, they basically confirmed that the “someone special” is Kageyama. Then they did an interview together for the volleyball association of Japan and told everyone they’ve known each other since high school, made a promise to beat one another in first year, became rivals, and are still competing against each other to this day to quote unquote push their promise further.

TOP STORY: THE DYNAMIC DUO TO BE AT THE OLYMPICS

The Dynamic Duo – more well known to fans by their names, Kageyama Tobio and Hinata Shouyou – will be playing together for the first time since high school this coming Monday in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
Infamous for their deadly quick attack that’s taken out their opponents since they were teenagers, the duo is said to have been practicing endlessly for their upcoming games. They’ve been spotted entering, exiting, and loitering around the National Team’s gymnasium together in Tokyo numerous times, almost always with their official gear on.
