Pint-sized Trouble

Summary:

“Izuku! What is that thing doing in our apartment?!” he questioned with a severe tone.

“It’s not a thing. It’s a dog!” Izuku cried, now kneeling to the floor as the dog sheepishly backed away from Katsuki’s elevated voice. “It’s ok girl,” he reassured, extending a hand for her to sniff.

“I’m not blind, dumbass. But what the fuck is it doing here?”

————

Izuku brings home a stray dog. Katsuki is furious, but how can he resist two pairs of eyes, round as saucers, staring down every good reason to say no?

Work Text:

The rain had finally stopped as Katsuki made his way off the train, embarking on the 10 minute walk to his apartment. A sigh of relief escaped him, knowing he was underdressed and had forgotten the spare umbrella Izuku left for him with a surprise dinner earlier that week. He was still slightly damp from the sudden rain before he entered the train at the other end. With a scowl, he scolded himself for his lack of preparation, the bite of cool air prickling at his skin.

He was already getting home later than his intention. There was extra paperwork at the end of the shift from some dumbass teenager thinking he could test the boundaries of his quirk on an unprepared market employee. It was a relatively insignificant incident, but new regulations required he fill out additional forms for any interventions involving minors.

That would have been enough if he hadn’t also arranged to check-in with All Might regarding the progress of their discrete project. It had been much easier to navigate the preparations when he lived alone. The intolerable coordination meetings and email correspondences, along with the extra shifts to squirrel away additional funds, often had him coming home later than was reasonable.

He was growing tired of the excuses he had to fabricate, even if he was particularly good at reframing the truth without detection. It helped that Izuku was particularly easy to distract with an open mouthed embrace.

Maybe you should just tell him? I’m worried all this secrecy this has been taking a toll on you, All Might had suggested in the early stages of their collaboration.

You know that self-sacrificial bastard will make us stop! I’m not going to let his stubborn ass get in the way of what’s right, he had reasoned.

Katsuki would have been willing to continue working towards this on his own, but learning not to shoulder every burden alone was one of the most salient lessons he had learned over the years. He was already racked with guilt for not pushing this forward sooner, and he didn’t want to waste any further time failing to navigate all the bureaucracy by himself. It was infuriating how quickly the world rallied when the crisis was fresh, but now, years later, it seemed impossible to move anything forward with a sense of urgency.

Katsuki finally arrived at the apartment entry, noticing a muted light permeating behind the curtain across their window. Hopefully the nerd managed to prepare something of substance to eat in his absence.

“Kacchan!” Izuku exclaimed, almost with too much enthusiasm, when he opened the door. He launched forward and kissed Katsuki with a forceful, almost desperate fervor.

“Dang, Deku. It’s not like I have been away for days or something,” he said pulling back with a smirk.

“Oh yeah, I just, well…”

Something was up, though Katsuki didn’t have time to contemplate as the sound of a high pitched bark emerged from behind the closed bedroom door. Katsuki’s brow furrowed as he located the source of the sound.

“Izuku, what the fuck was that?!” His eyes widened as he heard a muffled pawing at the door, followed by another yip. His eyes narrowed to thin slits as he grunted in agitation.

“Ummm…don’t be mad…”

Izuku Midoriya! What did the fuck did you do?!” He reserved his full name only for moments of complete exasperation, which mostly only happened when he acquiesced to Katsuki’s mother’s requests behind his back. He was tired, and whatever was behind that door was definitely not something he had patience for.

Izuku turned to Katsuki, shifting nervously as he made his way to the bedroom, the sound of subtle scratching increased as he opened the door. A small dog suddenly emerged.

She was a pint-sized, scrappy mix of unknown origin, likely an assortment of terrier breeds and chihuahua. Her wiry tufts of fur stood at wild angles, as though she were continuously ruffled by static electricity. Still, her unkempt frame only seemed to amplify her pitifully scruffy appeal. It was clear from Izuku’s expression that she had already pawed her way into his heart.

“Izuku! What it is that thing doing in our apartment?!” he questioned with a severe tone.

But what the fuck is it doing here?” Katsuki fumed.

Izuku stood back up to meet Katsuki’s piercing glare. “She is well…I don’t know exactly—”

“Well it’s not like a dog just waltzed into our home all by itself!” he scoffed, crossing his arms across his chest.

“No, I mean she was found roaming around the UA campus, and she was obviously abandoned—”

“So, of course Mr. Savior Complex just had to be the one—”

“Don’t call me that!” Izuku shot back, wincing slightly at his words. Katsuki softened his stance and squinted his eyes in remorse. He realized his wording was cruel considering the circumstances, even if it was accurate. Though Izuku would never admit it, it had been hard for him to sit from the sidelines watching his friends save the day again and again. His words seemed to land as a reminder of all the things he wasn’t.

He looked down, inhaling deeply to calm his tone. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that. This just caught me really off guard—”

“Literally no one else would take her,” Izuku pleaded. “They were all just going to bring her to a shelter!”

“Because they all had some goddamn sense,” Katsuki responded, still angered, but attempting to restrain himself.

“But…look at her!” Izuku took a seat next to the dog, gently stroking her coarse fur. “I couldn’t just take her to one of those places! Have you seen how small those cages are? And most of the time they don’t make it out alive!”

The dog had now seated herself next Izuku, her eyes rounder than a full moon as she peered up at him. She let out a small whimper, at which point Izuku directed his gaze towards Katsuki. His brow tensed with widened eyes to match the dogs expression with devastating accuracy. Katsuki wasn’t sure who looked more pathetic in that moment, as the scruffy mutt turned her gaze towards his attention.

Fuck Izuku! Don’t you both look at me like that! Not at the same freaking time…One night!”

Izuku’s expression relaxed as he released a broad smile. He sprung back to a standing position and embraced Katsuki with alarming force, kissing him with renewed fervor.

One night!” Katsuki reiterated.

————

It was just before 6:30 the following morning when Katsuki opened his eyes to the sound of shuffling feet and scurrying paws. He rolled to face the other side the bed, greeted with a ruffled blanket in Izuku’s absence. For a Saturday, it was unusual for Izuku to be up so early. He removed the comforter and hoisted himself out of bed, still in disbelief that Izuku convinced him to allow that dog to share their bed.

“You’re up early!” he called from the bedroom doorway, pulling a basic white t-shirt over his exposed body.

“Oh, Kacchan! I didn’t mean to wake you,” Izuku apologized as he took a near boiling kettle off the stove before the whistle.

“It’s not like I was going to sleep more than 10 minutes longer,” Katsuki replied.

“I wanted to make sure we went out before she needed to go,” he explained. He poured the hot water into his tumbler, the outside illustration of All Might scratched and worn from years of use.

“Come with us!” he encouraged. Izuku was dressed and nearly ready for their excursion. The dog was now hovering around Izuku’s feet, as he moved to find the leash and harness he bought for her the previous day.

“Izuku, we need to talk about this,” Katsuki warned, knowing his insistence of one night only was a message that didn’t take root. He observed as Izuku gently coaxed the dog into the harness. It was clear she wasn’t used to wearing one, and she squirmed slightly as Izuku fixed the final clip in place. Despite her slight protest, she was relatively amenable to the process. She seemed already to have a growing comfort with Izuku, despite their short timeframe to bond.

“We’re going out first. You can come or not,” Izuku asserted.

Katsuki grumbled as he retreated to the bedroom, throwing on a pair of sweats and a hoodie before meeting the two now fully prepped by the front door.

“Aren’t you going to wear a jacket?” Katsuki asked with eyebrows raised.

“It’s not that cold…”

Katsuki grabbed a jacket from the adjacent rack and threw it to Izuku with insistence.

Fine,” he exhaled with a smile, taking the coat as Katsuki continued to put on his shoes.

“It’s okay, little one!” Izuku assured the dog, guiding her into the hallway as they continued through the corridor to the outside. She seemed capable of walking on a leash, but had no concern for where she crossed, nearly tripping Katsuki as she zigged and zagged across the path. They continued onward, allowing her the space to find an appropriate spot for relief.

“We can’t keep her, Izuku,” Katsuki finally commented, as they slowly followed the dogs lead, watching her sniff eagerly at each shrub.

“I’m not saying we have to. But, you can at least consider it!” Izuku begged, turning pointedly to look directly into Katsuki’s eyes. Katsuki tried to look away, knowing his weakness under his gaze. He looked down to observe the scruffy mutt ambling slowly, Izuku gently pausing to follow her leisurely gait.

“Deku, we had this conversation before. I thought we agreed it’s too much responsibility,” he reasoned.

You said it was too much responsibility. And then we talked about hairless cats—”

You talked about those freak show cats,” Katsuki interrupted, rolling his eyes in response.

“Well, if it would appease your concern about shedding, I’d be okay with it,” Izuku argued before nudging him with his shoulder. “It wouldn’t hurt to be more open minded.”

He knew he was right, as he often was. He’d like to think he’d grown into a more open person, but even he could admit that was never his strength. “Well, you never brought it up again,” Katsuki concluded.

“Yeah, well. They all seem to come from fancy breeders. It just didn’t feel right to support that.” Katsuki shook his head with a subtle smirk. Of course he would say that. His moral fortitude drove him crazy, but he couldn’t deny it was also one of the qualities Katsuki loved most about him.

“How do we know there’s not some old lady looking for this scraggly mutt,” Katsuki questioned, still looking for every hole in his pleading argument. He looked down to observe the dog, her disheveled fur almost standing like a wispy Mohawk or a combover gone wrong. He watched as Izuku’s expression softened, the dog directing her gaze at him, searching for his reassurance.

“Doesn’t she seem a little malnourished? I don’t think anyone is looking for her,” he started, looking achingly at her scrawny appearance.

“But, I did contact the shelters yesterday, and made postings on lost dog forums. So far nothing… I took her to a vet too! No chip.”

“You did all of that, and you didn’t think to text me or anything?!” Katsuki grumbled, still annoyed for the lack of communication.

“Ask for forgiveness not permission?” Izuku sheepishly answered, his eyes widened with a sincerity that left a small ache in Katsuki’s chest.

Uh. Why does he have to look at me like that!

“Well who is going to be there during the day for her? We both come home at unpredictable hours,” Katsuki questioned, exhausting all potential pitfalls to this endeavor.

“I can take her with me to UA! I don’t think anyone would mind. She’s so gentle and sweet!”

“Well, what if you don’t work there in the future? What if…something changes,” Katsuki argued, regretting the words that instinctively tumbled out of his mouth.

“I don’t know what your taking about,” Izuku replied with a perplexed expression.

“But…I mean…a dog is a long term commitment, and you never know what life changes will happen,” he tried to rationalize, attempting to cover his tracks as believably as possible. The suit was almost complete now, after several years of coordination. Perhaps in as little as two months they might be able to finally unveil their efforts, and if everything went to plan, Izuku wouldn’t have to work at UA anymore.

“Kacchan, I’m sure I’ll still be at UA for the next decade at least. Besides, we can cross that bridge if your crazy hypothetical scenario emerges. I just don’t think all the ‘what ifs’ should be the determining factor,” Izuku persuasively reasoned. Katsuki couldn’t argue, he had already said too much. Instead he just continued moving forward, taking the tea tumbler from Izuku’s hand for a sip.

“For some reason, I feel like I was supposed to find her…”

At this point, they had reached the end of the block and the dog finally fully relieved herself, kicking the surrounding grass as she finished. Izuku’s words spun around in his head, and he tilted his head backward with a deep sigh.

“Fuck it! You’re on shit duty,” Katsuki finally relented. “From now on…”

From now on? Does that mean?!—”

He looked over to observe Katsuki’s begrudging expression of acquiescence. Izuku jumped, nearly startling the dog as he grabbed onto Katsuki’s arm, barely containing his enthusiasm.

“Don’t worry, Kacchan. You’ll never have to pick up after her. I’ll make sure of it!” he reassured as he continued to tightly grasp Katsuki’s arm, the dog nearly entangling them with her leash.

“Yeah, sure. we’ll see how long that claim lasts!”

————

It was now afternoon, and Katsuki opened the door with a basket of laundry carried up from the basement. He hated having to share with other tenants, especially when they didn’t mindfully switch over their loads at the appropriate interval. Still, he wasn’t about to find a more expensive place just for the added convenience.

The little mutt looked up at his arrival, sitting by Izuku, who was cross-legged on the floor, basking in her precious, disheveled form.

“Thanks Kacchan for getting that!”

“Well, you did the switch over,” Katsuki reminded. “But, yeah. I’m pretty amazing!”

Katsuki sat on the floor against the base of the sofa as he started to lay out the clothes in piles, sorted by type. Izuku reluctantly crawled away from the dog to help Katsuki with the folding.

“Here,” Katsuki said, pushing the piles of pants and socks toward him, leaving the shirts and underwear for himself. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust him with the task, but he had a very particular way he liked the shirts folded. He didn’t want to subject Izuku to that level of scrutiny. In any case, Izuku never seemed to notice the calculated division of labor. If anything, he probably thought Katsuki was being nice, always giving him less to fold.

They fell into a rhythm, placing each folded garment into stacks in front of them. The dog tentatively approached the pair, curling herself into the warmth of the crumpled pile of shirts.

“Tch. Is this our life now? I just washed these,” Katsuki grumbled.

“It’s so warm, can you blame her! Come on you can’t deny how cute she looks right now!” Katsuki couldn’t help but allow a smile emerge, pausing for a moment as he observed the scruffy crescent cradled in the warmth of their laundry. Izuku quickly grabbed his phone and took a picture of the two.

“Documented! Kacchan with smile!” Izuku teased.

“Tch! Delete that!” He leapt to grab the phone away from Izuku, at which point he tumbled forward, pinning Izuku beneath him. Izuku tucked the phone beneath his back.

“You little shit!” Katsuki facetiously protested. “Give that to me!”

“Why? It’s cute! She’s warming up to you!” Izuku insisted, blocking each of Katsuki’s movements.

Izuku grabbed Katsuki into a firm, yet unhurried kiss, their mouthes moving with an easy familiarity.

“You think you can shut me up with a kiss?” Katsuki interrupted.

You do that all the time!”

With a smirk, he leaned into Izuku, meeting his lips with sensuous force. Izuku’s tongue slipped into his mouth as he pulled deeper into his embrace, following the rhythm of Katsuki’s movements. He reached around his waist, trailing his fingers beneath his shirt as the weight of Katsuki’s thigh pressed into him.

“Kacchan, am I still in the dog house?” he interjected as Katsuki moved to kiss his neck.

“Oh, you most certainly are!” he confirmed, pulling back to look into his gaze.

Suddenly, Izuku tensed his thighs and shifted his weight to flip him over. “I can make it up to you…” he said, now on top, whispering into his ear.

It was always a rush when Izuku unexpectedly took charge like that. “You devious little dog!” Katsuki smiled.

Izuku’s lips resumed his exploration over Katsuki’s skin, lingering as he reached his neck. Katsuki let out a pointed exhale, digging his finger tips into the small of Izuku’s back.

Suddenly, Katsuki turned to notice a little voyeur next to them. His movements slowed, distracted by the dog’s abrupt interest in their activity.

Recognizing the shift in his attention, Izuku pulled back to observe the dog now sitting awkwardly close. “I-uh… thought you liked to be watched!” Izuku joked with a hesitant smile, as if embarrassed by his own words.

“By you, when I’m jerking off. Not by some perverted canine!”

“I’m kidding!” Izuku assured, lifting himself upright, extending a hand to pull Katsuki back to his feet. He led them to the bedroom. “Stay,” Izuku warned with a calm yet firm tone.

He shut the door behind them. Katsuki pressed Izuku onto the bed, stripping off his shirt in the process. Izuku exhaled, watching Katsuki unveil his bare chest. He pulled him back down to kiss him, rocking against his body in synchronicity with Katsuki’s motion.

With a creaking of the door, they were suddenly again interrupted by the dog as she jumped onto the bed with surprising confidence.

“What the fuck, Deku! I thought you shut that door!” Katsuki exclaimed, startled by the unexpected intrusion.

“I did! But…I’m starting to think that old door doesn’t really shut properly?” Izuku theorized, looking back and forth between door and the dog.

Izuku made his way out from under Katsuki. “Come on little one,” Izuku mumbled as he lifted her up and brought her back outside the room, locking the door this time as it shut.

Katsuki was now sitting at the edge of the bed, and Izuku climbed back onto the mattress, grabbing him from behind in an embrace. He let his fingers glide across his chest, pulling his hands to the base of his neck and up through his hair.

A sudden yip pierced the stillness of their deep breathing, followed by a persistent scratching at the door. Katsuki let out an irritated sigh, clearly derailed by the distraction.

“Maybe she’ll stop. Just ignore her,” Izuku suggested, still caressing Katsuki from behind, kissing his back.

The dog continued, launching into a full, relentless series of barks.

“Izuku!” Katsuki grumbled.

“She only seems to bark when the door is closed? Maybe she’s insecure?”

“Or maybe she’s a little freak that wants in on the action,” Katsuki scoffed, behind the continued barking.

“We could just leave the door open?” Izuku tentatively suggested.

“Deku! I’m open to a lot of things, but bestiality is not one of them!”

“Kacchan!” Izuku exclaimed, a flush spreading across his cheeks. “I don’t mean for her to join! Like maybe she would just calm down on the floor or something?” he explained.

“Now that’s the sexiest thing I’ve ever heard,” Katsuki remarked, imagining her round eyes watching them intently from a distance.

Katsuki got up from the bed and opened the door. “Well little cockblock, he’s all yours!” he said to the dog as she eagerly jumped onto the bed.

Izuku squinted his eyes and pressed his palm into his forehead. “I guess I’m still in the dog house…”

“Tch,” Katsuki grunted, tilting his head back in a feigned exasperation. “The things I put up with…” Katsuki grumbled, resuming his place on the bed next to Izuku. He nuzzled reluctantly into his neck, the dog now sitting comfortably between them.

“You are trouble!” he said with a smirk, allowing himself to pet her coarse fur.

————

Katsuki was in the kitchen, preparing for the meals ahead, slicing vegetables with exacting precision to store away for later use. He had taken to making bentos after learning of Izuku’s pathetic excuse for lunches, despite the convenience of Lunch Rush at his disposal. They already mistake me as one of the students, he had explained when rationalizing his protein bar meal substitute.

He didn’t used to take such care while preparing lunches when it was just himself, but if it actually encouraged Izuku to take the time to eat a proper meal, he’d gladly invest the effort. Secretly, he found satisfaction in perfecting each partitioned delight, arranging each dish with careful attention.

Sunday was typically his catch up day, and Izuku was usually there too, prattling on about his students and their current assignments, or the latest updates from their friend group. He was always much better at staying connected.

This afternoon was quiet, save for the sound of their new scruffy companion eagerly following Katsuki as he moved about, awaiting any morsel that fell to the ground. Izuku was out, having promised his mom he’d help her shop for a new sofa, though he wasn’t sure why she’d rely on his judgment. If it was up to Izuku, they would have a basic futon covered in an All Might blanket. Whatever the pretense, he knew it was just an excuse for her to wrangle him away from the busyness of life.

When Izuku first left, the dog sat by the door, anxiously awaiting his return. In the short few days of their serendipitous meeting, she had grown quite attached to her rescuer, following him from room to room. It wasn’t until Katsuki began cooking that she allowed herself the distraction.

“Little beggar!” he softly grumbled, gently nudging her from underfoot as he moved to take the salmon out of the pan. “Tch. You think you can convince me that easily, huh?” he said while shaking his head. He looked down to his furry shadow, her eyes looking up to him with pleading insistence.

“Trouble,” he muttered, allowing a small smile to emerge.

Katsuki continued his dance around the kitchen, attempting to avoid kicking her while he finished packaging their next days lunch.

His phone buzzed. A text from Kirishima.

Kirishima: Dude! You have a fur baby?! This is everything! 🥹

The text was followed by the photo Izuku captured of him the day before.

“Little shit!” he grunted.

Kirishima proceeded to send a flurry of photos of his mastiff, like a proud parent utterly convinced his slobbering child was the most photogenic canine on the planet.

Kirishima: What’s the name! We need a doggy date!!

Katsuki rolled his eyes at the sheer volume of texts that had now flooded his screen.

Me: shitty hair is already taken…

Me: ask Deku. She’s his problem child…unless someone actually claims this haggard mess.

Kirishima: … sure. We’ll see what you say after a week! I saw your smile! 🤣

Katsuki shook his head and let the screen turn to black, directing his attention towards the ground. He couldn’t deny a slight softening to her presence.

It was now starting to get dark. Of course Izuku would be out longer than the two hour estimate he gave. The dog came to his side and placed her small paw on his leg. It was like when Izuku brushed his hand against his for the first time as grown adults, and he couldn’t help but feel a flutter of joy radiate in his chest.

He knelt down to bring himself to her level. “You think you can make me a sap? Tch. Zuku’s already got you beat…”

Katsuki looked around to locate the leash and harness Izuku had purchased, wondering how long dogs can wait before needing to go out. He suddenly felt protective of her comfort. The weather was turning soon, and he didn’t want to wait for Izuku’s return.

After a failed attempt to orient the harness in the proper direction, he finally managed to get her outfitted, albeit with a little less grace than Izuku’s handling. She was still tentative, but growing more confidence with Katsuki.

Once outside, he observed the mutt as she wandered ahead. She didn’t walk with a sense of urgency and was easily distracted by the smells at each interval. But, there was something novel and refreshing about her pace. Between the grind of work, the preparations for “Project Deku”, and the seemingly endless mundane daily tasks, he barely had time to be slow.

They rounded the corner where Katsuki averted his gaze as the dog found her ideal spot to take her squat. You’ll never have to pick up after her. I’ll make sure of that! Katsuki replayed in his mind, chuckling to himself at the absurdity of his claim. Izuku’s decency must have rubbed off on him, and he grumbled to himself as he submitted to the task, relieved to notice a nearby trashcan.

The cloud cover above had grown in thickness, and Katsuki noticed several heavy droplets against his skin. He turned to coax the dog back in the direction of their apartment, hoping to outpace the hastening rain.

A few moments into their journey back, the sky unleashed a sudden downpour, the dog’s fur quickly dampening. Katsuki opened the umbrella he had stashed in is pocket, but it provided little coverage to the dog positioned so low beneath him. She paused to look up to Katsuki with a small cry, refusing to continue her movement. Her body appeared ever frail as she grew more saturated.

Katsuki’s heart sank at her pathetic whimper, and he quickly scooped her into his arms. “You’re not the only one who hates the rain,” he commiserated.

Finally making it back to the warmth of their apartment, Katsuki quickly retrieved a clean dishcloth from the kitchen and gently toweled her dry. “Don’t worry little mutt,” he quietly assured. “Almost done.”

He released the dog who continued to give a good shake, leaving her appearance even more scraggly and tousled than before. In his quick action, Katsuki hadn’t even noticed Izuku, who had been quietly observing the scene unfold from the hall, an unrestrained smile across his face.

“Kacchan! I was just about to text—”

“Shit Izuku! you startled the crap out of me! I didn’t know you were there.”

The dog now approached Izuku, greeting him with an affectionate sniff and a tail wag.

“I didn’t know when you’d be back. So…”

“You decided to be a little dog whisperer?” Izuku finished. He grabbed hold of Katsuki and kissed him lightly. “It’s cute!” he continued, pulling him into a deeper embrace. “More than cute.” He fell into his gaze, looking into him with sincere appreciation.

“Sorry I got back so late. I stopped at a pet store on the way home,” Izuku explained as he moved to retrieve a bag of items on the table.

“I read some forums, and it’s really common for dogs to interrupt at the most… uh…inconvenient times. But, I read that if she’s preoccupied…?” He blushed and started to unveil an assortment of items, including a few soft, plushy and hard chew toys. The dog’s interest was now thoroughly piqued, and she jumped, placing two paws against Izuku’s leg. Izuku gave her one of the soft toys to explore.

Katsuki lifted up the different items, inspecting them, almost to determine if they seemed to meet an undetermined standard of quality.

“So that’s a lamb ear. And, that one is a rubber thing that you can fill with treats.”

“What’s a bull pizzle?” Katsuki asked, reading the ingredient label on the back of a package containing several sticks.

“I don’t know… but the person at the store said they are some of the most popular products as a chew distraction!”

Katsuki retrieved his phone to investigate, chuckling as he scrolled through the search results. “Ha! Deku, it’s a fucking bull’s dick!”

“Oh!” Izuku’s eyes widened, seemingly perturbed by the image.

What? You’re ok with an ear, but a cock is too much?”

Izuku shrugged, a faint redness crept across his cheeks.

“Come on. It’s fitting. The little perv can have hers, while we have our ours!”

Izuku rolled his eyes. “Not in front of her!” he said, kneeling to cover her ears at his crass comment.

Seriously Izuku? You were ready to fuck in front of her yesterday!”

“Yeah well… you’re so infuriating!” Izuku stood up and turned away in embarrassment, squinting his eyes in frustration.

Katsuki reached over to Izuku, grabbing him from behind. “I’m sorry, izuku,” he said, kissing his neck. “I’m just teasing. You l know I like it when you’re emboldened.”

Izuku turned around, to face him, Katsuki’s arms wrapped around his waist as he brought his lips to his.

“Yeah well…I like when you get a little soft and protective. It was really sweet to see you dry her off from the rain like that,” he shared, looking intently into his eyes. “It makes me…want to be emboldened,” he confessed, drawing him in even closer.

“Pizzle time?” Katsuki joked with a suggestive grin, watching as Izuku squirmed in discomfort.

“Now that’s the sexiest thing I’ve ever heard!” Izuku rolled his eyes, playfully pushing the side of his head in exasperation.

“Tch. You want me to be soft, huh?” He brought his lips to Izuku’s and kissed him with calculated restraint, teasing as he pulled away. Izuku exhaled deeply before breaking from his grasp.

Izuku grabbed the package of sticks from the table, opening the bag and offering it to Katsuki to distribute. The dog was now by their feet, eagerly jumping at their legs.

Katsuki took one of the sticks and knelt to the ground, presenting her the treat as though it were a sacred object. “You enjoy yourself so that we can enjoy ourselves, little mutt!” he said, tussling her head gently with a smile.

“We have to come up a better name for her,” Izkuku insisted.

“Little perv?” Katsuki facetiously suggested.

“Little mutt it is…for now.

They paused in the sound of the rain, observing their scruffy addition as she indulged in her treat with enthusiasm. Katsuki allowed a smile to grace his face as he watched the scene before him, not denying the unexpected warmth he felt in the moment. Izuku grabbed his hand and leaned into his side.

After a moment Izuku pulled back, luring Katsuki towards the bedroom, careful not to draw attention to the distracted canine.

“I still plan to make it to up to you,” Izuku whispered in his ear as he quietly guided them through the hallway.

“There’s nothing to make up for, Deku,” Katsuki reassured as they approached the door. Izuku’s eyes widened at Katsuki’s surprising acceptance, his rounded cheeks accentuated by the broad smile he could not restrain.

“Now get in here,” he directed, pulling Izuku into the privacy of their room, locking the door behind for good measure. “Before that little mutt crashes our party,” he said with a grin, pulling them both into a tight embrace. His grip was firm, but his touch was gentle, running his fingers through his tousled hair.

“No distractions,” he said, capturing Izuku’s lips against his own. “Just the two of us.”

His lips curled into a reluctant grin, thinking how their lives have been fully upended. How he managed to be such a sucker for that bleeding heart nerd was a perpetual mystery. Yet, there was no denying, he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thanks for reading!

I am thinking about exploring this particular narrative thread further. Maybe more slice of life moments set during/after the time skip?

Also, if you have ideas for what to name the pup, let me know! (Or if you have any other comments 😊)
