Chapter Text
There she was again, Wonyoung looked into the stands and found the doe-eyed woman focused on the baseball game. She is wearing eyeglasses this time… She noticed the young woman in the stands was also taking notes while watching the game.
Wonyoung was a cheerleader for the LG Twins, she went viral for fixing her makeup and then cheered right away when the team made a home run. Her popularity was as big as the Twins’ rookie Anh Yujin. She assumed that the woman was an annual ticket holder, Wonyoung noticed her from last season.
The girl was now on her feet and started to cheer, Wonyoung noticed which made her a few seconds late to cheer for the latest home run. Looking over her shoulder, she saw the star rookie Anh Yujin cheer for her home run. While running to the last plate, Yujin pointed over to the glasses wearing girl.
Wonyoung felt uneasy, did Yujin know the mystery girl?
..
Yujin gripped the bat and lifted her elbow, she already had two strikes and two balls. It was the bottom of the ninth inning, the score was tied. Her eyes glanced over to see her “good luck charm” in the stands. Whenever Yujin noticed her, Yujin would play her absolute best and the team would win. Even in the dugout, Yujin would always try to find the passionate fan. The girl would wear a Twins jersey and Yujin was curious about the jersey number she wore.
She had to make this hit, and Yujin was ready.
The pitcher threw the ball and at that moment, Yujin swung the bat as hard as she could. Adrenaline pumped through her veins, when she heard baseball making contact with her bat. Next thing she saw was the ball making its way toward the bleachers.
She scored a home run!
Yujin threw her bat to the side and made her way to the bases. The crowd cheered her name and the cheerleaders celebrated her run. Making her way to the home plate, she pointed to her “good luck charm” and felt her heart beat fast.
..
The LG Twins was Gaeul’s favorite baseball team. She grew up with the love of the game from her mother, she was the Twins pitcher back in the day and she followed in her footsteps, where she played during high school as a pitcher. College scouts were eyeing her to be recruited for their team, Gaeul had a promising future until she injured her shoulder.
Gaeul was heartbroken, but decided to redirect her future into journalism. She was breaking through the sports world as a journalist and more teams were starting to take notice of her work.
“Kim Gaeul-ssi, you can meet the team in the dugout for the interview.” An LG Twins staff started to lead her to the team dugout. She nodded her head and fiddled with her glasses, looking back at her notepad.
Determined, she made her way to interview the players.
..
Yujin was putting her gear away while the head coach announced that a sports journalist would interview a few players. “Everyone, this is Kim Gaeul.” Her eyes widened, it was her .
It was Yujin’s unofficial “good luck charm” and she was right in front of her. Gaeul smiled nervously in front of the baseball team.
The pitcher started to fix her hair and to make herself presentable, when she felt a nudge. Kim Jiwon, first base player, whispered, “Get it together, unnie.” The sports journalist started to approach the baseball players.
“Kim Jiwon-ssi, you made a remarkable play stealing a base in the fifth inning, what was going through your head at the moment?” Gaeul asked the Twins player. Jiwon flashed a smile, “Well Gaeul-ssi, when the feeling is right I went for it. Best advice I ever heard.” The tall girl looked at Yujin and patted her on the back.
“Yujin unnie told me that.” Jiwon winked and Gaeul let out a little laugh.
“Ahn Yujin-ssi, you made a spectacular home run to bring a win for the team. How are you feeling?” Yujin was mesmerized by Gaeul’s doe-like eyes.
“It-It feels great to make a winning home run, it’s a crucial win for us to make it to the playoffs.” Yujin stuttered at first, she felt like a fool. Gaeul nodded her head, taking some notes.
“Do you have any past players you look up to?” Gaeul continued.
Yujin thought for a moment, “Kim Seola had a great season when she played and her pitches were phenomenal. I remember watching her when I was kid and she inspired me to play baseball.” She noticed how Gaeul smiled brightly at her response.
“I will let her know, Yujin-ssi.”
Yujin looked at Jiwon, then back at Gaeul with a confused look on her face. “You know the Kim Seola?”
Gaeul nodded her head, “I’m actually seeing her for a late night meal with her wife Kim Soobin.” Someone gasped from behind, it was the Twins’ head coach, “No one wonder you look so familiar, you’re Kim Seola’s daughter.”
Yujin was shocked, Gaeul looked down and bowed slightly to her, she then went on to interview more players.
The pitcher felt defeated, she didn’t get a chance to ask for her number. She felt another pat on her back, Jiwon assured her, “You’ll see her soon, unnie. I feel it.”
..
After interviewing the majority of the players, the head coach invited her for an exclusive tour of the stadium and Gaeul was more than happy to see the tour as a fan.
She followed the coaches and was in awe seeing one of her favorite places in the world.
Being distracted from seeing the past team’s photos, she noticed the cheerleading squad walking through. Gaeul was pushed and glasses were knocked off her face. She was expecting a hard fall when someone grabbed her arm from falling to the floor.
“Are you alright?”
The voice was soft and feminine. “Rei-chan, get her glasses.” The young woman gently put the glasses back on her face. Gaeul can finally have a good look at her savior and she felt her heart beat fast.
She had soft brown eyes, two beauty marks near her eye and cheek, and supple lips.
“Ah thank you so much…”Gaeul was flustered, “Miss….”
“Wonyoung, Jang Wonyoung.” She smiled softly and helped Gaeul to her feet. “And your name is…” Wonyoung was desperate to know her name, thinking it was fate to meet the woman who was on her mind even after the game was over.
“My name is Kim Gaeul, thank you again Wonyoung-ssi.” She expressed her gratitude once again. Wonyoung started to wonder why Gaeul was with the coaches, maybe because of her dedication to the franchise?
“I noticed you in the stands earlier,” Wonyoung told her and she noticed Gaeul’s cute mole on her chin. Gaeul gave a small smile, “I’m usually too focused on the innings, you performed well, Wonyoung-ssi.”
“Wonyoungie!” Her teammates called her over. Wonyoung had to have her number and thought fast. “Can I have your notepad and pen?” Gaeul was confused but handed them over. She quickly wrote her number and gave it to the shorter woman.
“Hope we can see each other soon!” Wonyoung smiled, joining her squad. Gaeul was rendered speechless. As Wonyoung joined her team, she made eye contact with Yujin who went past her.
The rookie was making her way towards Gaeul.
..
“Kim Gaeul-ssi!” Yujin called out to her, making sure Gaeul had her full attention. Gaeul was astonished, all eyes on her.
“You forgot this in the bullpen.” Yujin smiled at her, fixing her backwards cap. Gaeul was handed a sports card of Yujin. Before Gaeul can respond back, Yujin’s teammates hollered at her.
“Hope to see you at the next game!” Yujin rushed back to her team and briefly made eye contact with Wonyoung.
Gaeul looked at the card and her eyes widened with Yujin’s signature. Yujin also wrote her phone number. She noticed that something was stuck on the sports card and Gaeul peeled them off, revealing two cards.
The world was sending her a sign: a Yujin sports card and a Wonyoung photocard.
