Work Text:
Two men are drafted into the Second World War, miles away from one another. They see their respective birth dates clearly pulled in deaths raffle. They do not know of each other, but they will soon meet in a military base, and then again on the battlefield, where one with blonde curls will bleed out from several wounds on the hard dirt.
He will die yielding the other man’s tags around his neck and therefore die yielding his soul. His counterpart will carry the dead man’s tags for fifty-odd years and nightly dream of glistening blue eyes and blonde curls that caught the attention of the sunlight so easily. The mens hearts will be forever etched with the others initials, BH and SH. They will unite once more in the haze of a lazy afternoon at the end of a long, winding dirt path, symbolising the end of this time together.
They do not know when they will next meet, but they will forever be each other’s in this life and the next.
