Summary:

“ So, take my tags, and I’ll take yours, and if I die in this shitty fucking war, don’t tell them we switched; let me be buried under your name — and some fifty years from now, you can be buried under mine. ”

Notes:

Hi guys!! This is my first time actually posting on here and it’s just a small sample of a much bigger idea I have for a fic. Hope this is good and you like it <3 this is inspired by a post I saw on Pinterest, which is the beautiful text in the summary. I know there will be inaccuracies but I will correct those if I ever make this into something more.

Work Text:

Two men are drafted into the Second World War, miles away from one another. They see their respective birth dates clearly pulled in deaths raffle. They do not know of each other, but they will soon meet in a military base, and then again on the battlefield, where one with blonde curls will bleed out from several wounds on the hard dirt.

He will die yielding the other man’s tags around his neck and therefore die yielding his soul. His counterpart will carry the dead man’s tags for fifty-odd years and nightly dream of glistening blue eyes and blonde curls that caught the attention of the sunlight so easily. The mens hearts will be forever etched with the others initials, BH and SH. They will unite once more in the haze of a lazy afternoon at the end of a long, winding dirt path, symbolising the end of this time together.

They do not know when they will next meet, but they will forever be each other’s in this life and the next.
