Work Text:
A knock, two and three before the door slides open. Dan Heng already could recognize the pattern and who it is even before the person opened it, however realising that your knocks are slightly frantic. More than usual.
"Mind if I come in?", you ask, head peeking slight inside. Of course, he doesn't mind if you come in— even if you barge in without saying anything or even break the door open just to come in; Dan Heng would always accept you with open arms. "You know what I would say— just come in, love", his voice as soft as it could be, the tone that he reserved only for you. Once his gaze lands on your face, he realises how you seem rather.. exhausted than how you usually look.
Dragging your feet against the floor and immediately settling in his makeshift bed makes him look at you in concern, as his eyes shifts between the data he's entering into the archive— and to you; who's sitting on his bed. "You feeling alright?", his voice contain a slight hint of concern that he fails to hide, finishing up on whatever he was typing on the archive— and going up to you then couching down to your level. "Yeah, I'm fine.— probably?", you reply back as your gaze locks with his, revealing how open you are to being vulnerable with him.
"Love, you know you can tell me anything— right?" , both of his hands cupping your cheeks. "I can tell that you're not feeling the best, so tell me; please? I won't force you if you don't want to", he looks at you with concern although his voice still sounding soft. "No, it's just—" you croak out as your throat suddenly feels like it's dry; like you haven't drank any water for the past few days. "It's nothing, I just had a bad day; that's all", finishing your entire sentence while tears are threatening to spill out of your eyes without realising.
He scoots closer onto you, his arms wrapping around you. "You should've told me earlier, but it's okay— I'm here with you now, you have me", he whispers as his warmth surrounds you; your head resting against his chest, able to listen to his heartbeat.
Feeling your eyes stinging, you already knew that your tears are just trailing down your cheeks— everything that had happened today, all of it went wrong. His arms tighten around you, soft whispers into your ears reassuring you that he's with you.
After a while, the exhaustion from crying and just tiredness from the entire ordeal hit you hard— making you doze off while being in his warmth. He kisses the top of your head as his hand rubs soothing circles onto your back. "I love you, love— I'll always be here", he whispers despite knowing you're already asleep; reassuring that he will always be with you no matter what.
