Work Text:

Marion couldn’t help but feel relief. Her mother was dead, her brother was torn from her, she had to abandon the one she loved oh so dearly.

She swore she could never love anyone without them being torn away from her first.

Marion loved too easily and she couldn’t help but cry, the tears staining the desk.

She made it. She was loved.

She was able to be close to people without anyone taking them away from her. Oh, how cruel fate was. Only giving her such a thing too late. Tears stained her face. She couldn’t tell if they were happy or not. She hoped they were happy.

The tears were uncontrollable as she bawled into her palms, uselessly wiping at her face that only caused her jacket to be covered in tears, sniffling to try and keep herself under control.

“Pull yourself together now, Marion…” She sputtered, unable to stop her tears.

How long had it been since she last cried? It must’ve been years.

Is it okay to indulge in this feeling? This lighter-than-air happiness that almost felt like she could take on anything?

Just this once, she promised. Just this once, she’ll selfishly indulge in this feeling.

She was happy. She was free. She was home.
