A Ghostbuster and His Ghost

Summary:

Kirishima chuckled. “Bro, we’re not gonna wear our costumes to do homework.”

“Fine, that’s fine,” Kaminari held his hands up in defense. “Lack the spirit. I just take this as a sign that I’m going to win the duos costume contest tonight.” He stated smugly as he sat down.

What he didn’t expect was for Bakugou to snort. “Yeah right.”

They all looked at him in slight disbelief.

“What? Are you saying you have some epic costume planned?” Kaminari questioned.

Bakugou smirked, glancing at them briefly before returning his eyes to his homework. “You guys have already lost. Deku and I have never lost a costume contest, ever.”

Mina burst out into laughter. “Y-You and Deku? A costume duo? You’re kidding.”

OR: Bakugou and Midoriya are childhood friends. Of course they've worn matching costumes.

Work Text:

Kaminari proudly strutted into Bakugou’s dorm room, wearing a Pikachu onesie that looked rather adorable on him (in his opinion). “What do you think?”

The Bakusquad members looked up from their homework and stared at him for a moment.

“I think you’re late.” Bakugou snapped, turning back to his homework.

“I think you look suuuper cute!” Mina grinned, getting up and looking over the outfit. “What’s the occasion?”

Kaminari looked at her like she was crazy. “Occasion? It’s Halloween! Why aren’t you guys in costumes?”

“The Halloween party isn’t until tonight, isn’t it a little early to be dressed up?” Sero asked with amusement.

“It’s never too early to get in the Halloween spirit.” Kaminari scolded, looking at them all with pure judgement.

Kirishima chuckled. “Bro, we’re not gonna where our costumes to do homework.”

“You guys have already fuckin’ lost. Deku and I have never lost a costume contest, ever.”

Mina burst out into laughter. “Y-You and Deku? A costume duo? You’re kidding.”

“Yeahhhh no offense bro but, I’ll believe it when I see it.” Kaminari snickered.

Sero was far more skeptical than amused. “You’re not actually saying you and Midoriya used to dress up. Together.”

Bakugou scoffed, as if Sero was an idiot for even asking. “Our moms are best friends, we’ve been thrown into matching costumes since we met.”

“Okay but you were a little kid then, you had an advantage of extra cuteness.” Mina pointed out. “Plus, you and Deku aren’t exactly friends.”

“Friends or enemies, we’ve never been to a costume contest we couldn’t win easily.” He shrugged.

Kirishima grinned a little. “Exactly how many costume contests have you guys been in?”

“Like at least three every year.” Bakugou told them with a huff. “Our moms loved that shit.”

“No way, this has to be some Halloween prank.” Kaminari told him simply with a shake of his head. “There is nowhere that you, Bakugou Katsuki, are telling me you and Mido-bro are some ultimate costume duo when you literally can’t stand him.”

Bakugou raised an eyebrow. “My hatred for Deku has nothing to do with our costume skills.”

Kaminari looked at the others for help. For someone to have reason, maybe. But all he got in return were helpless shrugs.

Whatever. When Kaminari and Shinsou won the contest later tonight, he’d expose Bakugou for his bullshit then and there.

The Halloween party was being held in the school gym. Everywhere you looked, people were dressed up and partying. A large stage had been set up as well for the costume contest. There was also bobbing for apples, multiple snack tables, and of course some cheesy western Halloween music playing over the speakers.

Mina, who was wearing a jelly jam jar with a cute matching hat to act as the lid, skipped over towards Kaminari and Shinsou. “Wow, you guys look great!”

To go with Kaminari’s Pikachu onesie, Shinsou was dressed as a Pokemon trainer with pokeballs on his belt and the classic trainer hat.

“We know.” Kaminari told her smugly, making Shinsou roll his eyes fondly.

“You went as jam?” Shinsou questioned curiously.

Mina did a twirl to show it off. “It’s a classic! Oh, but what is jam without peanut butter? Ohhh peanut butter!” She called.

An embarrassed and sulking Sero stepped over, wearing a peanut butter jar costume with a matching hat for his lid.

Kaminari and Shinsou stared at him for a moment, before bursting out into laughter.

“You said thet wouldn’t laugh!” Sero groaned, face getting red.

Mina giggled. “I lied.”

“Oh wow, nice costumes guys.” They all turned to see Kirishima, who’d dressed up as…Little Red Riding Hood?

Kaminari’s eyes widened. “Whoa, you look awesome!”

“I love your cloak!” Mina gushed.

Kirishima grinned at them. “Thanks. So I take it you guys are entering the contest too?” He asked her.

“Only way I could get him to wear that.” Mina snorted, gesturing at Sero, who scowled in slight mortification.

Kirishima paused as he looked Sero up and down. “Oh…wow…that’s…” He tried not to laugh. “It’s a very manly costume, bro.”

“I hate Halloween.” Sero deadpanned, storming off towards the snack table.

“So has anyone seen Bakugou or Midoriya yet?” Kirishima questioned.

Kaminari scoffed. “No. Leave it to him to keep his costume a secret. I bet he was totally bluffing.”

“I dunno, Bakugou’s not really one to bark without bite to back it up.” Mina noted.

Shinsou sipped his drink. “Well the contest is starting soon. We’ll find out then.”

“Everyone give a hand for Kaminari and Shinou, with their amazing Pokemon duo costume!” Midnight announced cheerfully to the crowd of students, making them all applaud. Midnight had gone with what some of them had to argue might be the best costume of them all.

Aizawa. She came dressed as Aizawa.

And did a shockingly good job too. But her tight black sweater completely outlined her body and left little to the imagination. It was essentially as if Aizawa had been female.

The man in question was not nearly as amused as his fellow teachers.

When the applause died down, Midnight grinned as she read the next duo. “Up next, we have Bakugou and Midoriya!” Everyone clapped again as fog machines activated.

Stepping out of the fog, Bakugou revealed himself, in a Ghostbusters suit.

The Bakusquad had to be in awe. His proton pack looked shockingly realistic, and the suit didn’t look like cheap costume material either, it looked like a real suit somebody would wear for actual work.

“Happy Halloween, mother fuckers!” Bakugou grinned at the crowd. “Lots of ghosts out tonight, I’m sure you know.” He suddenly looked alert, turning and pointing the wand of the proton pack. “There’s one now!”

Everyone watched in genuine awe as Midoriya emerged from the fog in a ghost costume.

In a way, the ghost costume didn’t even look very realistic. It had patches and stickers on it, as well as a drawn-on face on the hood. It was more like a fancy cloak than anything, but Midoriya still made it look incredible.

Midoriya grinned at the crowd. “Boo!” He teased.

“Not on my watch, ghost! HA!” Bakugou activated the proton pack wand, and everyone watched as colorful beams shot out of it and towards Midoriya.

Midoriya stumbled, crying out as if he was struggling as he slowly stepped forward towards Bakugou. “Ah…no…NOOOOOO!”

In a flicker of the lights, Midoriya disappeared.

Everyone waited tensely, watching as Bakugou smiled proudly and lowered the wand.

“Another ghost busted. You’re welcome.” He told the crowd proudly.

And for a moment, they thought that was it.

But that’s when it happened.

The proton pack began to tremble and shake rapidly, startling Bakugou, who was quick to throw it off his back. “What the!?”

Everyone let out loud gasps as the proton pack broke open, and Midoriya levitated out of it, an incredibly sinister grin on his face.

“A ghost like me can’t be contained that easily, ghostbuster.” He mocked, before grinning wickedly at the crowd. “Mwahahahahahaha!” The lights flickered again and when they were back, Midoriya had disappeared.

The fog machine stopped and Bakugou stopped acting, standing up straight with a proud smirk.

Instantly, the crowd burst into cheers and applause, completely thrown by the performance that just happened in front of them.

As they cheered, Midoriya ran onto the stage with a grin, taking Bakugou’s hand and holding their joined hands in the air.

Kaminari’s mouth was agape. He still couldn’t entirely believe what just happened.

How did they-

When did-

What in-

Where did-

“WHAT!?” Was all he ended up screaming.

Bakugou grinned at him smugly as Midnight announced him and Midoriya the winners of the contest. They were given little medals as symbols of their victory.

When the contest was done and everyone got back to partying, the duo came over to the Bakusquad, who were still in complete disbelief.

“Huh?” Kaminari said dumbly.

“Kacchan said you thought you could beat us at a duos costume contest.” Midoriya told him with a smile. “When I heard that, I knew we had to go the extra mile.”

“That. Was. AMAZING!” Mina all but shrieked, grinning widely.

Kirishima was still looking at them with awe. “How long did that take you guys to practice?”

Bakugou and Midoriya stared at him with honest confusion.

“We didn’t.”
