Green Light and its Monsters

Summary:

After the rain stopped, everything seemed fine.
Until it wasn’t.

*Sequel to Rain*

Work Text:

After the rain stopped, everything seemed fine.

Until it wasn’t.

Reports started sweeping the world, from Asia going west of green light spotted on the horizon, followed by smoke and destruction.

North Korea had launched its hidden stash of atomic bombs, the other countries quickly followed suit in a misguided hope of counteracting the attack. The world promptly dissolved into madness though.

The world had not learned its lesson, because the countries soon began to pull out all of their nuclear weapons when the atomics ran out. The world was reduced to a barren wasteland, and the geography completely changed. Mountains were flattened, valleys were raised, and nothing looked the same.

Then came the monsters.

Thanks to all the nuclear bombs going off everywhere, the gamers rose from the lower rungs of society up to the likes of the scientists, Fall Out veterans being some of their most high-ranking members. Mutations had popped up by the thousands, and the amount of radiation in the air was making everything so much worse. Few were safe, every major town or city being Ground Zero.

The sea had never been completely safe, but now even stepping foot on the beach was a death sentence. The sky and ground weren’t as bad off, but all flights were grounded permanently, some areas of the world became like the Forbidden Forest. Communities of Survivors set curfews in place and sought the safety of fortified bunkers.

Terrifying to others, fascinating to One. Even in times like these, One’s curiosity could never quite be satisfied.

While others hid, One would stay in plain sight. With the somewhat quiet nights (danger to others, and peace to One), you had a clear view of the stars. Discomforting to others, beautiful to One.
