Work Text:
One would notice the stars first. After the rain and nuclear fallout, there were no clouds or lights to disturb the night sky. The stars were still as numberless as they had been when world began. Yet some had gone out. One could tell if they paid close attention.
The once small specs of Mars and Venus had been growing steadily bigger. The moon had also been slowly growing bigger, and the affected tides of the already dangerous seas added yet another reason to stay away.
Haley’s comet hadn’t been due for another ten years. Yet it had come three times in the last week alone. There were meteor showers every month, asteroids were starting to change the geography of the world yet again.
One could never hear music over the radio anymore, the broadcasters were too concerned with the state of the world. So one would sit in silence, watching the planets and stars make their way ever closer. Even in the daylight, you could see the galaxy’s changing dance. The days and nights had steadily grown longer, time no longer a necessary construct.
The religious frantically spread the word that judgment day had arrived, while the scientists rushed through experiment after experiment, and research after research trying to figure out what was happening.
A definitive sign that the end was near for some, a dazzling spectacle for One.
