   Acquiescing to human affections was by far the worst of Kirk’s ideas Spock had said yes to and there was one principal reason. On Earth, among humans, hand holding was among the mildest romantic gestures. So mild, school children engaging in it might earn adoring cooing from their parents. This was not true on Vulcan. On Vulcan hand holding was the sort of behavior only engaged in behind closed doors.
