Harry couldn’t believe Hermione roped him into this blind date for charity. Time with people for auction items was barmy, but especially with him. He was just… Harry.
Sure, he’d defeated Voldemort and a slew of other “heroic” things when he was a teenager, but that was over a decade ago. Now Harry was 30 and spent most of his time tinkering in his workshop. He made things to sell sometimes. But mainly, they were just nice to look at, so he surrounded himself with baubles.
Hermione fussed around him, fiddling with the ostentatious robes she’d forced him to wear. They were midnight blue and sparkled with enchanted stars. Harry hated dressing up, but he had to admit that the robes were fantastic. He’d probably never wear them again, but they were gorgeous.
“There!” Hermione exclaimed, getting the material to fall as she liked.
She stepped back, giving Harry a once over. Her gaze snagged on his face.
“You look good, but you should shave your beard. You look like a logger,” she said.
Harry rubbed the beard that honestly had gotten pretty scruffy. He didn’t look like he lived in the woods somewhere, but it was wilder than he used to let it get. Spending so much time in the workshop, making himself presentable seemed less important when he wasn’t… well, presenting himself. Still, he kind of liked the look.
“I think I’ll keep it,” he said. “I like the feel of it.”
Hermione frowned in her slightly disapproving way but moved her eyes up to Harry’s hair for her next target. Harry caught her eye just as she opened her mouth and raised a disbelieving eyebrow. When had his hair ever behaved, even with products and endless wrangling attempts? Hermione heaved a disgruntled sigh and let this, too, go.
“At least wash your face!”
Harry smirked and went off to do as instructed. After splashing some water on himself, he assessed himself in the mirror. He looked pretty good, if you asked his opinion. The hair and beard and brown skin. They worked for him.
“Honestly, Harry. They paid 500 Galleons for tonight. Do try to look decent.”
Who even paid that much for time with him ? This anonymous auction brought out the truly wealthy. Still, the charity benefitted whether he was in fancy robes or his jumper.
When Harry was finally ready to Hermione’s satisfaction and shipped off to the restaurant, Harry both was and wasn’t surprised to see Draco Malfoy walk in, resplendent in his own robes. He caught Harry’s eye and smirked before making his way over. And if Harry was stunned for a moment by how gorgeous he looked, well, he couldn’t be blamed for that.
