Louis turned at the sound of Lestat’s voice, his body a flower reaching toward the sun. His heart leaped at the sight of him, still bathed in the soft haze of sleep.
Here was his husband returned to him.
For just a moment, he let himself believe that everything was normal. That they were still those men who had loved each other without hesitation. Lestat stood in the doorway, dressed in his old silk pajamas, the champagne fabric catching the early light. His loose hair curled at his jaw, still slightly puffy from sleep, and Louis could almost forget everything for the sake of this one perfect moment.
But memory had a cruel way of lingering.
