Chapter Text

Minjeong knew she messed up the second her eyes caught her gaze. She knew she should've just stayed in the shadows like always, but she’s tired of the craziness around campus. She's heard the stories, but she didn't think it would be like this.

"What did you just say?" The other girl raises a brow at the shaggy haired blonde girl, face barely visible, eyeing her from top to bottom. Noting, the oversized clothing, thick rimmed glasses, and the "well loved' converse.

"You're being too much, that's enough Yu Jimin." Minjeong's voice was stern and the crowd that began to grow around them was stunned. No one's ever talked back to Jimin before nor called her by her name like that, "Come on, let's get you out of here." She pulls the girl she was protecting away.

As the two walked away, the crowd's focus shifted to the taller girl who was unusually quiet. Too quiet, that some began to walk away in fear of the brewing anger underneath.

A few days pass after that incident and to Minjeong it seems like things went back to normal, or so she thought because here she is, inside the chancellor's office with Yu Jimin.

"Would one of you care to explain the incident that occurred a few days ago?"

"What incident?" Jimin acts innocently and Minjeong tries her hardest to not roll her eyes at the girl.

"Jimin." The chancellor removes her glasses, pinching the bridge of her nose, "I only asked as a courtesy, but I already know exactly what happened or in this case what could’ve happened."

"Chancellor Kim, if I may." Jimin began and Minjeong already knew that what the taller girl will say will just put her in more hot water, "We've already resolved the issue." Minjeong spoke up, "Jimin's already apologised. Right?"

"Jimin? Apology? Really?" The chancellor looks at Minjeong and then at Jimin, “You can even call Somi here to confirm." Minjeong bluffs, her eyes never leaving the Chancellor.

"Hmm well, that's new for you Jimin, but it looks like your new friend here is a good influence. You two may go." The two are excused, leaving quickly without turning back.

Outside, Jimin follows Minjeong, not caring at the students who are eyeing the two curiously but choose not to comment.

"What?" Minjeong stops after reaching a more secluded part of campus.

"I should be asking you that. What was that in there? Trying to play the hero again?" Jimin asks, arms folded across her chest.

"No, I just wanted this to end. Plus, Somi did get an apology just not from you."

"And who are you to apologise for me?"

"Someone who's done with your bullshit."

"Bullshit?"

"Yes. You act so high and mighty around campus and for what? Do you get off power tripping or something? Stop acting like a cliché Jimin, this isn't your own version of Boys over Flowers."

"Excuse me? Me? A cliché? Please, what do you know?"

"You really are clueless." Minjeong shakes her head, walking off disappointed more than anything else, while Jimin watches again left fuming.

Kim Minjeong has always kept to herself, has always been quiet, and has always been a shadow. She doesn’t care about appearances or reputation. What matters to her is a person’s heart. Minjeong is someone that people always overlook, but at night..when the world seems to start shutting down, that’s when Minjeong would always find herself in the centre of the spotlight.

“This is the last song of the night and I hope you guys enjoy it!” She says into the mic as the final song cue enters her in-ear monitor and the metronome clicks to keep her on beat. She begins to play and in a moment, Minjeong finds herself lost in the music. The spotlight begins to fade, the roar of the crowd hums, and all that’s left is Minjeong singing and playing her heart out on that stage with her friends. Enjoying every moment like they’ve always done. In a blink of an eye, the song ends and Minjeong eyes her friends, signalling them all to huddle together to say their goodbyes for the night.

“Thank you everyone!” They bow while the crowd cheers the band’s name, “APERIO! APERIO!”

After the show, Minjeong showerese and changes to the clothes she had on from class and decides to head home instead of going to the afterparty like planned. But as she entered her unit, she knew something was up. There was a pair of shoes at her door, a very familiar pair. With a sigh, Minjeong enters, placing her keys on the counter and looking for the person who decided to come unannounced.

“What are you doing here?” She barely spares her guest a glance while heading towards the kitchen to grab herself something to drink.

“What the hell was that?” The girl stands from the couch, coldly staring at Minjeong.

“Jimin.” Minjeong sighs, “Even here you’re going to want to fight? What happened to us living our lives like we don’t exist to one another?”

“That stopped the second you decided to humiliate me in front of people on campus and how you even made it a point to apologise to that bitch for me? Really?! Shouldn’t you have taken my side?”

“Why? Why would I take your side? She clearly tripped, I saw it all.”

“Tch, whatever Minjeong.” Jimin rolls her eyes, “If you want to believe what you saw then fine.” The tall girl heads to the door and leaves before Minjeong could get another word out.

“Maybe I should’ve just gone to that damn party.” Minjeong rubs her face.
