Summary
With trembling hands, Alicent held her chest, feeling the hard points of her crucifix. She clutched the sharp edges until her palm bled and begged for any sign that this was not what she wanted, that her consciousness rebelled against this act, but nothing came. No tears, no sudden clarity or change of heart.
She thought of a better world, where she put it in drive and went back to her empty home. In that world, the worst sin she could commit was drinking until she passed out or threw up, or both. Disgusting and undignified and exactly what she deserved. But that was the problem, was it not? She did not want what she deserved, not really. A head-splitting headache and vomit burning its way out of her throat and nostrils would not do. She didn’t want better, she wanted worse. And worse was sitting in a non-descript hotel room two floors up.
Or: Alicent and Rhaenyra keep meeting in secret. Somehow that's not the most incriminating part.
