Chapter Text
She should have known buying a shady looking box that “knows all and grants all” probably wasn’t worth it. Definitely shouldn’t have been worth it, but she couldn’t help it could she? Looking at the rusty ominous box set on her dresser, y/n sighed.
“I think i’ve just been scammed..”, y/n scratched her head. Just fifteen minutes ago she was walking back from college to her apartment room. It wasn’t the best of days - one thing led to another and she found herself taking a shortcut home through a shady back alley where she met an old woman bargaining and pleading with her. “Listen girl, this box..this box, oh! You have never, and i mean NEVER seen anything like this before, no, only one to ever exist! It grants wishes girl..anything you’d ever want”, she croaked before y/n. All y/n had to do was unwrap the contents within it, and all her “wishes would be granted”.
Buying the idea of a wish granting box sure seemed odd, but y/n would feel guilty turning the poor woman down. What was there to lose? Not that she believed the idea of a box bestowing people with wishes, but she really started to think about the odds. She eyed it while placing it on her bed. It had an air of peculiarity about it, almost clawing into her and boring into her mind.
tempting . The thought of opening it was so tempting, but she couldn't do it just yet- Not without coming up with her “wish”. “What do i even want?”. Thrill, excitement, something new. She’d been cooped up in her own little box her entire life, always craving adventure but never being able to move out of her little space. “I want to live..”, the thought amused her- having an experience she’d consider so enchanting and thrilling it’d leave her breathless and itching for more.

She laughed a bit, and opened the withering box delicately, expecting some lost treasure or something that might resemble a granter of wishes, instead what she found was something…something wrapped loosely in talismans. Strange.
Picking it up, she brought it closer to her face. It smelt like nothing, but had a waxy texture. She started to unveil it, perplexed as to what it could be, slowly anticipating what was to come.
To her horror, it was revealed to be some sort of preserved finger. “What the fuck..?”, she held her nose. The stench was putrid, making her stomach drop. Its nail was charcoal black, while the skin from the ends seemed as if it was withering and peeling off. “This has to be some sort of sick joke, that old lady has an insane sense of humor” y/n mumbled.
Without warning, the floor started to shake, making her lose hold of the finger as it rolled across her room. Y/n immediately covered her head with her hands, bracing herself for the earthquake, but it stopped as quickly as it had began. Cautiously, holding her chest and breathing heavily she looked around for the finger. “This day just keeps getting shittier huh” she grumbled to herself, unable to find it, as if it evaporated into thin air. She sighed and wondered if it was the lack of sleep getting to her. “Dreams coming true, my ass”, she muttered as she felt a hand yank at her shoulder.
