Work Header

the complications of having two adorable pet cats

Summary:

Jean shifted to sitting on the hardwood floor and scooped King up in his arms. Sir must have overheard the commotion and grew envious as he leaped off the couch and began to investigate the situation.

“Don’t tell me you came here just to see the cats.”

Jean gave Neil a cheeky smile. “Alright, fine. I won’t tell you that.”

Notes:

part 3 of my aftg drabbles!

This prompt was “Jean visiting Andrew and Neil except he only cares about King & Sir”

Jean is ooc in regards to his characterization not matching his current canon personality. In this fic, he is happy and has made substantial progress in his road to recovery after what he endured in the Nest. He is in a happy, loving relationship. His only mistake is falling for a exy fanatic.

Kerejean is implied but Jeremy is only mentioned, this fic only has Kevin/Jean interactions

greenbean: open your door

no

“Drew! Get the door, we have a visitor.” Neil Josten poked his head into the living room.

“Who the fuck is it? Kevin? He can wait.” His partner grumbled as he flipped through the newest edition of Exy Weekly. One of their cats, Sir, was perched on his chest while Neil’s legs were thrown his legs. “He can just let himself in with the key you gave him.”

“It’s not Kevin. It’s Jean. Just get the door.”

“Why don’t you get the door?”

“Because I don’t want to. and because you love me.” Neil grinned at his partner.

Andrew rolled his eyes with a ghost of a smile and reluctantly got up off the couch and gently put Sir on a couch cushion. Neil always thought it was so endearing how careful Andrew was with the cats. When Andrew opened the door, Jean Moreau stood there staring at his cell phone.

“About time.” He said as he looked up from his phone “You two realize I could hear your entire conversation from out here right?”

“Don’t care, just come in.” Andrew opened the door wider so Jean could walk into the apartment. “What are you even doing here? Don’t you live in Boston?”

Jean ignored Andrew’s questioning and stumbled his way into the apartment. Jean didn’t come visit to just see Andrew and Neil. Sure, it had been awhile since he was in New York and saw the pair but that wasn’t why he decided to come over.

“Bonjour King.” Jean squatted down towards the floor to pet the cat. King purred and rubbed his head into Jean’s hand. “Awe, you’re such a sweet cat.”

Neil scoffed as Andrew cackled. “He is not sweet. He is a menace.” Neil said as he made his way off the sofa and into the foyer to greet Jean. “Damn, nice to see you too, Moreau. Mis gatos are su gatos, I guess.”

Neil truly could not believe his eyes. Jean looked so out of place with his awkward height, gaudy Doc Martin boots and smudged eyeliner. But perhaps the scariest part of it all was the way Jean was smiling down at the small, furry creature as if the cat was Kevin Day.

King had resorted to meowing and brushing himself against Jean’s legs which caused him to start cooing at the cat. Jean shifted to sitting on the hardwood floor and scooped King up in his arms. Sir must have overheard the commotion and grew envious as he leaped off the couch and began to investigate the situation. Jean was two seconds from exploding before Andrew rudely interrupted the moment.

“Oh look at this, a full spread of Kevin Day in this month’s issue of Exy Weekly.”

Jean’s head swiveled towards Andrew in interest before he realized the blond’s ploy. “Nice try, Minyard. You’ll have to try harder next time if you want your cats back.” Sir climbed his way into Jean’s lap and curled up in it. “Do you deprive these guys of love?”  Jean asked before turning his attention back to the cats. “Do you two not get enough love and attention from your fathers? That is a true cat-astrophe. I would never deprive you of love and attention.”

“Oh my god.” Neil groaned “You going to USC was the worst decision Kevin ever made. A cat-astrophe? Really?”

“I’m choosing to ignore that comment. Here take a picture of me and send it to Kevin and Jeremy.” Jean tossed his phone to Neil. “Caption it with ‘This is why you need to buy your partner a cat.’”

Neil fulfilled Jean’s demand and sent the picture but not before adding his own thoughts and opinions on the matter to the message. “So remind us again why you graced us with your presence. Don’t tell me you came here just to see the cats.”

Jean gave Neil a cheeky smile. “Alright, fine. I won’t tell you that.”

Neil groaned.

“It’s a long story. Kev and I came down here with Jeremy since he has this athletic trainer convention.” Jean sighed and ran his fingers through King’s fur. “I wanted to go to the Met with Kevin but he would rather watch old exy games on the television so I left.”

Neil wondered why he and Andrew were constantly involved in Jean’s love life after seven years. It was frankly exhausting and Neil has had enough of it. Andrew must have had the same thought as Neil heard a phone ringing almost immediately.

“Kevin, get over here and retrieve Jean. He’s lonely and is taking it out on King and Sir….stop watching exy and spend time with your partner…. If you don’t get him, I’m kicking him to the curb…. See you soon.” Andrew ended the call and threw his phone across the couch. “Your knight in shining armor will be arriving soon. Now give me back my cats.”

“No.” Jean glared at Andrew.

It took Kevin twenty minutes to convince Jean to leave the Minyard-Josten apartment.

It took Jean three hours to convince Kevin to go back to the Minyard-Josten apartment to see King and Sir again.

Notes:

bonus:

“Why did Kevin get the spare key over me?” Jean pouted.

“Because Neil lost our rock-paper-scissors-shoot game.” Andrew said plainly.
