"I just can't believe they said no!" Sam huffed, frustration clear in her voice.

"Apparently, I'm still ‘needed,’” Jack said with an eye roll, adding air quotes. “Too important. Hammond wants me to take the position."

"You were— are such a pain in the ass! How do they still want you?"

"Hey!" Jack feigned offense.

She shook her head. "You're a victim of your own success. Our allies love you."

"I hate clichés," he muttered.

Sam bit her lip, holding back a smile. “But R&D is under Homeworld’s command... How will—”

Jack dropped to one knee.

“Marry me, Sam.”
