Work Text:

“Drop the knife. Let me out of this room. Then, you can have the key.”

Topaz demanded sternly, still breathing heavily from their brief fight. She clutched the key so tightly that her hand trembled.

Amethyst’s posture didn’t change, he still stood there defiantly in front of the door, dagger in his raised hand. He seemed to internally weigh up his options, his expression softening a bit as he thought. After a long pause he answered.

“Fine, Topaz. You win. I’m not putting up with your… nonsense again.”

The knife clattered to the floor and was then swiftly kicked away, well out of reach.

“You can be so childish.”

Topaz held back the torrent of anger that surged just layers beneath her skin, only exhaling through her nose in protest. Lashing out would do her no good. Amethyst stepped aside, gesturing to the door. She glared at him, fearing that it wouldn’t be so simple, would he really just let her go?

“Go on, leave.”

He sneered.

Right, right. She took the chance and made her way over to the door, facing him the whole time, watching keenly for any unusual movements. Distance was more than necessary.

“What? Do you think I have another dagger up my sleeve?”

That tone. That look he gave her. It stoked the fire, she could feel it creeping up her back, burning almost painfully, the rage. However, fear was much stronger now, a cold, chilling breath to blow the flame out. Topaz turned to the exit and feverishly began to twist the key in the lock, a soft click was her reward. Relief washed over her as she started to pry the heavy door open, only for freedom to be snatched away in an instant.

Her head met with the wood, her fingers were bashed between the door and its frame. The large hand that gripped her head pulled her away with such force that she fell backwards, smacking the back of her head against the hard, polished floor. Topaz lay there, dazed. The first feeling her body registered besides the pain was the now-warm metal of the key digging into her hand, he didn’t have it, she still had a chance.

Though an attempt to move herself was made, Amethyst acted quicker - as if he’d done it a thousand times, he restrained her. She was grabbed by her shoulders and lifted a bit, then slammed back to the floor. It felt as if her skull would crack, the force of the impact echoing throughout her entire body, a sickening and dull pain like falling from a tree. Amethyst then gripped her neck, pulling her head higher before bashing it down again.

Again.

Again.

Again.

Again.

Then, mercifully, it stopped.

The sensation of involuntary tears rolled from her eyes. Her vision had gone black for a second, only to return, blurred and wobbly. Even through the haze, the sight before her was one she hoped she wouldn’t see, for on his face was not anger or annoyance, but excitement. Topaz longed for the ignorance of unconsciousness, the numbness, the peace, anything.

“It didn’t have to be like this, you know. Things could’ve been nicer between us…”

Amethyst said, ending it with a sigh.

“But I’m sure you like it better this way, don’t you, Topaz? I know I do.”

He smiled.

“I really do.”

The smile widened.

Notes:

My first non-fandom work that I’ve ever posted, I wrote it a few months ago. This’ll likely be the only one that I post, since all of my other writing about my OCs is quite old!
