Yet even through the pain, he remembered the dying words of Celebrimbor.
“One alone shall prove your utter ruin!”
Even when dying, Celebrimbor had pitied him. No, he had pitied Annatar, the Maia who wanted power to heal Middle-earth, not for its own sake. Sauron did not recognise that Maia.
Annatar had cried. Sauron never did. The Ring destroyed him long ago.
