Work Text:

The weekend shows were taking place in the Midwest. It wasn’t too cold yet, thankfully, so you and the other superstars were able to do some sightseeing and such without being uncomfortable with time.

After getting dinner together, your partner Rhea insisted that she take you and your other partner Damian out somewhere.

Rochester Minnesota didn’t have many huge places to go, not during the times you guys were available. There was a mall that you three had gone to earlier that day with Dom, before the show, but after a late dinner, you’d figured it was time to go back to the hotel and go to sleep. It was nearly midnight anyway.

“There’s one more place I want to go, okay?” Rhea pleaded, placing a kiss on your cheek.

She didn’t bother trying to persuade Damian- she knew he’d come with if you so much as batted your eyelashes at him.

“How long are we gonna be out?” You yawned, climbing into the back seat of your rental pickup truck.

Rhea had a pickup back in Florida, and for this trip she insisted on getting a rental truck to drive around too. Damian wasn’t super pleased, but he’d drive anything.

“Just a little while, love,” Rhea encouraged. Finally, she turned to Damian, “I swear, I won’t drive too fast.”

He eyed her extended hand, raising an eyebrow, “You kill us, I will haunt you till the end of time.”

“I promise I won’t kill us,” She grinned, and Damian finally placed the rental car keys into her hands.

The two of them climbed into the truck now too, and you finally closed the door behind you as Rhea brought the car to life. She had some sort of GPS open on her phone, but she wouldn’t let you or Damian look at it.

For a bit, you closed your eyes and rested your cheek against the cool window of the truck. Tonight, you wrestled against Tiffany Stratton during the live show, and while it was always fun to be in the ring with her, the two of you had put on a show. And man, you were tired.

At some point, Rhea got off of a highway, and the slow in speed caught your attention. She had also turned the metal song on the radio down a few notches, which made you blink your eyes open in curiosity.

There was absolutely nothing around. No buildings, barely even any lights to make the street easier to see.

“Where are we?” You asked, looking around to see if maybe there was something you’d missed. All around, there were corn fields and trees, with only a few barns or houses as you kept on driving.

“We’re almost there, I swear,” Rhea explained.

A few more minutes, and Rhea slowed to a stop, pulling the truck off to the side of the road where there was a patch of dirt to park farm equipment.

Rhea turned the car off and turned around, winking at you, “Go on, princess. Get out of the car.”

“You’re leaving me here for dead!” You exclaimed, but then Damian was opening the truck door too and stepping out to stretch his legs.

You waited till the both of them were out of the truck first, then you finally followed, opening the door and stepping onto the dirt that crunched under the weight of your feet.

Right away, you realized exactly why Rhea took you there.

Looking up at the sky, the Northern Lights were shining green and white, almost like there was a living being dancing above your heads. Even Damian was looking up in awe.

Rhea opened the back door of the truck to grab a blanket she had stored beneath your seat, before grabbing it and making her way to the truck bed.

“C’mere,” She encouraged.

You nearly tripped making your way to the back of the truck, refusing to take your eyes off the stars and the shining lights above you.

The three of you climbed into the truck bed, laying down on the blanket that Rhea had laid out in the bed of the truck, your partners on either side of you.

The spot above you had a particularly active spot of Aurora Borealis, and all three of you watched in awe.

“It’s like the sky is alive,” You said softly, “Rhea, how did you know this was happening?”

“I saw it online. Have you ever seen them before?”

You just shook your head. The stars were brighter too, and you sighed, “I don’t even think I’ve seen this many stars in the sky. Not since I was a kid.”

“This is really cool, Rips,” Damian chimed in.

The midnight breeze had begun to pick up, and you scooted yourself a little bit closer to him, tucking your body into Damian’s side. Rhea scooted over closer too, til you were all huddled together.

For probably a half an hour, the three of you laid there together, just watching the sky. Rhea would point out the occasional constellation, Damian would hum in acknowledgement, and you just stared.

It was beautiful. Not just the sky, but also the moment.

The three of you were together, all looking at the same beautiful lights in the sky that wouldn’t ever move or shine in the same exact pattern ever again. You’d lay there forever, if you could, watch the stars go by as the Earth turned, over and over, in the arms of your lovers.

Maybe that is what you do every day. Maybe that’s why you were so happy it felt like you were about to burst with the love that swelled in your chest.

“I love you guys,” You whispered, and Damian didn’t even bother to open his eyes from where he had begun to fall asleep.

He just hummed, tilted his head a little bit closer to you as Rhea responded out loud, “I love you too, dove.”

The three of you laid out there for probably an hour total, until Damian had begun snoring and you had also started having trouble keeping your eyes open. Rhea, ever the insomniac, was perfectly awake and able to drive the three of you back to your hotel room where you curled up the same way you had outside, the same way you will forever, as the Earth turns, over and over, in the arms of your lovers.

Notes:

As a Minnesotan who saw the Northern Lights for the first time this summer, I thought they were so beautiful. Had to write about it. ALSO I was so appalled to hear that Rhea and Damian were in Rochester last year and I didn't go! I had no idea! If they come back, my ass will be there.
(Side note: I totally bought tickets for the Chicago show for the Holiday tour this year (it's a few days before my birthday!), and if I don't get to see at least ONE of the two of them, I'll go insane <3)

Hope y'all enjoyed! :)
