Work Text:

Dev had yet to find a better experience than waking up to his wife sprawled out on top of him, snoring, and drooling a little. Especially when it was the weekend, because then he could lay there on the bed, careful not to move too much so that she could keep sleeping, and just relish being in her presence. Hazel was a heavy sleeper and there were times when he was pinned under her for hours, but Dev didn’t mind. Because those moments were the most peaceful.

Sometimes though, Hazel would be the one who woke up first and just like him, she didn’t leave the bed until Dev woke up. Except Hazel liked to play with his hair till he woke up. Like this Sunday. Instead of waking up to Hazel on top of him, Dev woke up to her brushing the hair out of his face and whispering, “He looks so peaceful and pretty. Like a princess.” When she saw he was awake, she smiled.  “Hey Sleeping Beauty. Sleep well?” Hazel asked as Dev rubbed the last bit of sleep from his eyes. “Good morning. I slept fine. You?” He said, sitting up to look at her.

Hazel looked beautiful. Her eyes practically glowed with joy, and her bonnet helped create a halo in the morning light. Her nose was scrunched up just the tiniest bit as she gave him another sleepy smile. She was perfect in every sense of the word.

“I slept pretty good but I woke up even better.” Hazel said, grinning at him. “Why’s that?” Dev asked, pulling her towards him. Hazel lifted a finger and traced it down his face. When it met his lips, he kissed it gently. “I woke up with you next to me.” She said, kissing his cheek. “Well I woke up with an angel looking down at me so I think I woke up better than you.” Dev said, cupping her cheek. Hazel giggled as he pressed a kiss to her forehead.

“Not an angel, just your wife.” She said. Dev grinned. “Just my wife? That’s even better than an angel!” He exclaimed, making Hazel laugh. When she stopped, she gave him a serious look. “Seriously though, I woke up next to the prettiest person in the world. I think my wake experience was better than yours.” Hazel said. “So you woke up next to a mirror?” Dev teased. “Nope, just you. My wonderful husband.” Hazel said simply. She leaned in as if she was going to tell a secret. “This is the part where you kiss me.” She said in a stage whisper.

Dev grinned. “Do you even have to tell me?” He said, tilting her chin up and gently pressing a kiss to her lips. He felt Hazel smile as she kissed back, letting her hands wander wherever they pleased. When he pulled back he pressed his forehead against hers. “Marry me.” He said. “Already did that love.” Hazel said. “Then I wish we could get married again.” Dev said, smirking slightly. Hazel laughed. “You know it doesn’t work like that anymore. I can say that I still feel it in my bones that I’ll love you forever, though.” She said, halfway quoting her vows.

“I know I’ll love you forever and more.” Dev answered, full on repeating his vows. Hazel squeaked, not expecting him to say with such seriousness. “Okay, we should get up. Want some breakfast?” She said, scooting off Dev’s lap and off the bed. He followed after her. “Any breakfast with you sounds perfect.” He said. Hazel smirked. “Pretty words aren’t gonna make us hashbrowns, c’mon let’s go.”

And with that the peace and gentleness of the bedroom was gone and was quickly replaced with the sound of chaos as the two of them rushed around the kitchen to make breakfast.

Just another day in the life of the Wells house.
