Chapter Text
“Ah, it's been so long since we've been home! Hehee! That was a very fun trip, though! That world tour was a great idea, honey!” An elegant and gentle voice graced the air as a fiery red Vulpix walked through the doorway of her cozy cabin home, its structure and location hidden from the edge of a forest, but wasn’t too far in. The beautiful fire type Vulpix was accompanied by two others of her kind, both of which were white versions, bearing the ice typing.
A kind yet sturdy male voice passed back to the beauty of the fire Vulpix, “I’m glad you enjoyed the trip, Tali, my Fire Lily, or rather my Light Lily!” Tali turned around after she lit the fireplace with a small puff of flame; the logs were weathered as a result of not being used for approximately five months. Tali faced the white Vulpix, and they both smiled as their memories of their home filled their minds once more.
Tali spoke up, recalling the first time they acquired the cabin, “You know, Snow, my favorite Snowflake, I still remember the time when we first bought this house, how we returned to it after our wedding and when our little girl was born too, our little Crystal.” Tali looked at her left paw, which held a gold wedding band around her leg, just above the paw itself. Snow looked down on his white-gold wedding band as well, each of them held six shining diamonds within them.
Snow was about to speak about some memories that came flooding back to them, but another white Vulpix, who was just barely smaller than him, got to speak first. “Mom, Dad, how about we dream of these memories... It’s really late, and I think we all deserve some sleep...” The white Vulpix’s voice was starting to slur, and her half-mumbled statement was interrupted by a yawn as well. She was struggling to keep her eyes open, as her mind and body were both exhausted.
Tali turned to see her exhausted daughter and quickly apologized, “Oh, Crystal, I’m sorry sweetheart. Here, hop on, you look like you’re about to pass out any second. We've been walking all day today and I forgot about how you struggle with jet lag...” Tali lowered her body to lay down and allowed her daughter to climb onto her back, wrapping her paws around her mother’s neck. Snow recalled how he allowed his wife to do the very same thing to him, and hummed a chuckle when he remembered his first experience with it and the pancake he became afterwards. Snow, Tali, and a very sleepy Crystal, all head over to their room and enjoy the rest of the evening in bed.
The trio of Vulpixes had returned to their home during the warm night of the end of summer. They had all taken a five-month long summer vacation to see the other continents of the world, with their home located in the smallest one, known as the Starfall Continent. The world itself is known as Pothin, which is a name originating from a long-lost language. The trio enjoyed the big vacation as well as learned a lot about the world and its interesting mechanics, and they even enjoyed once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Snow had won a big tournament earlier in the year, using his winnings to fund the big trip around the world. The tournament was a huge series of battles, with a couple hundred participating in it every season. The name of the event was known as The Warrior's Soul Tournament. Snow actually won the tournament twice in a row now, with the first event being four years prior. Many things changed between his first win and the second, the most notable being the fact that for the very first time in the history of the tournament, they held a second, smaller tournament starting at the quarter-finals. The smaller tournament was called The Little Warrior’s Tournament and was exclusively made to test the younger generation along with the main event. Snow’s daughter, Crystal, was a contestant in The Little Warrior’s Tournament, and she won the championship too.
Other big announcements were made and performances were enacted, the biggest one being the initial debut of The Starry Souls. The Starry Souls were previously known as Void Bearers, named due to the void of emotions that they held. To fill this void, they used the dark, negative emotions in the hearts of Pokemon, and from there, they were released from their host and created an entity of darkness. Snow had a friend who was also a Void Bearer, but this one was different. Despite holding negative emotions within himself, he held no hate or malicious intentions in his own will, and he recently learned his own backstory during the tournament.
At first, Snow was introduced to the Void Bearer during a nightmare during the first few days that he arrived in this world, as he was originally a human, sent to this world to save the last of the ice Vulpixes, becoming the last one. Snow ended up fusing his body and soul with the Void Bearer and learned his name in the process: Obsidian. Recently, Obsidian learned of a change in the timeline that altered his past and learned of his true name: Dian. Obsidian had two friends that he enjoyed being with before finding Snow; they were Orbus and Lia. He didn’t know how he made the name for himself, but he learned the connections of his true name in relation to his friends’ names, with his new name being created from the fragments of each one, representing a broken past held together by the three of them.
Through Snow’s kind and light-hearted nature, he and Obsidian were able to distill pure light into all the Void Bearers of the world, with some help of course. Snow and Obsidian obtained many unique powers, some more dangerous than others. Despite being in a Pokemon world, and other humans were sent to it as well, one human was able to recreate the concept of video games in their new lives. However, this became a fountain of issues, for the use of fiction was valuable in relation to the use of magic.
Snow had witnessed magic being used throughout his time in this world, and he purposely abstained from using it or even being interested in it. He knew it had its uses, and he knew that other Pokemon are capable of achieving it through the use of a mysterious energy known as Mystica. Heeding the warnings of his old friend, Snow did not engage in the practice, for power had a price. However, Obsidian managed to achieve what he would not.
One early morning, Obsidian revealed that he made use of magic, specifically the same magic used in video games, which was both powerful and very dangerous if not handled correctly. Ultimately, he learned that applying Mystica to his own memories, where the knowledge of the video games was located, was the culprit of such power in the technique. Those who didn't have the direct memories didn't have the same level of power. As a result, Snow, Obsidian, and anyone else who could utilize this power to its fullest potential were urged to prohibit themselves from using it.
With Snow and his family back from their big vacation, he put his mind to work on figuring out the details for his request to lock away this dangerous power. Since there was always a risk of wielding this power, or any power for that matter, he was going to request that it be forbidden to use Mystica to manipulate the essence found within memories into actionable tactics. Snow was weighing his options on the matter, as he felt there was a difference between recreating full-blown attacks and spells from nothing, as opposed to applying memories to certain abilities and moves that Pokemon currently use, which would be immensely helpful in various situations. The prime example of this type of manipulation was his Memoria Veil, which instilled the visual memory into the fabric of light in the Aurora Veil. While some others learned how to use these abilities, Snow had urged them not to. Even though he included himself in the request, he lightly tested the effects of the Memoria Veil during the tour, while also making sure he didn't overdo it.
After comparing the mechanics and his previous experiences with his powers, Snow had an idea in mind. If he was forced to remove all forms of essence manipulation, he decided on a special event for the winter holidays before making his request.
