"-and then I finally met my father, but it turned out he was an evil celestial planet who wanted to kill the universe, so we killed him."
"I feels like there's context missing here?" said Clint sitting in an armchair in the massive living room/kitchen/diner of the Avengers tower, listening to Peter Quill explain his father very badly.
"He'd been planting some of himself on a bunch of planets,"
"What, ew?"
"and on every planet trying to make a kid that would inherit his powers, that's me."
"Even more ew!"
"You gonna shut up, Robin Hood?"
"But according to him he fell for my mom and kept coming back to earth, so he gave her cancer so he wouldn't keep coming! Then we met and he tried to use me like a battery for his takeover of planets with the him he planted in them."
"Uhhh..."
"Glad you killed that guy then." said Rhodey, chuckling.
"Got any other family we should be concerned about, Planet boy?" Tony smirked at him.
"Nah, we already killed my father-in-law," Tony's smile dropped slightly. "and my grandpa is totally norm-" he cut himself off with a bark of laughter "Granny used to say that my other grandad was Captain America, 'cause she married Grandpa Jason when Mom was one, do you think that counts?"
The group chuckled. Steve, standing in the kitchen turned at the use of his moniker.
"What's so funny?"
Rhodey spoke, a laughing tone in his voice, "Quill's granny said you were the father of her kid."
"I bet loads of women said that." said Clint, "How many kids do you have, Steve?"
Steve's cheeks were tinged pink, but he laughed it off. "None. FRIDAY could you play Billie Jean by Michael Jackson."
"Ha! Cap did a joke!"
"You can't think I'm completely dull."
"Well there are lots of naughty rumours." said Tony with a teasing grin. "Are you sure you never had a child with... what was your Granny's name?"
Quill chuckled. "Mary Grover."
All the colour drained from Steve's face. "Did you say Mary Grover?"
"Yeah?" Quill turned, confused.
"We met on the the USO tour. We... What year was your mother born?"
"1944."
"FRIDAY could you have medbay prepare for a DNA test. Come with me Peter." Steve guided Quill to the elevator and they descended to medbay.
The others sat gaping. "No way!" Clint's eyes were wide. "No way!"
Tony suddenly burst out laughing and as the shock wore off, Clint and Rhodey started laughing too.
When the elevator arrived back on their floor the men were still chuckling, but they turned to stare at the doors as Steve and Peter stepped out looking a little shell-shocked.
A few seconds ticked by before Tony couldn't stand it anymore. "So?"
Peter sighed "So, apparently my Granny wasn't joking and Captain America really is my grandpa."
"You've got to call me Steve, kid. Or Grandpa if you want."
"We're like the same age, man."
"Hey, this is weird for me too, suddenly I had a daughter and I have a grandson who fights space crime, or does space crime?" Steve looked confused.
"Uh, never mind that. Maybe we can go somewhere else and I'll tell you about my Mom," he weighed it in his mind then finished jokingly, "Gramps."
Steve smiled "Yeah that would be nice."
They left the room and the others sat staring at each other. "You know he never actually told us what happened with his father-in-law." said Clint.
"Shhh," Rhodey covered Clint's mouth with a hand. "I don't want to hear about any more of his family for a while."
