Giovanni was thrilled over the fact that Bucky seemed a bit interested in cooking, and even just helping him to begin with. The black feathered goose was hoping to eventually get someone to pass his skills down onto, no matter how hard that was to admit. But, when Bucky approached him on that giant ship to offer some help with cooking, he couldn’t pass on that opportunity.
“So, to get started, let’s get cooking some eggs. It’s one of the easier things you can do to get a handle on cooking.” Giovanni hummed out, going to the refrigerator to grab a few eggs. “There are many different ways to cook eggs, from boiling them to poaching them. We are going to start by making scrambled eggs. Bucky, can you get a pan and put it on the stove? Also grab a bowl and a fork.”
“You got it.” Bucky went into the nearby cabinet, grabbing the pan and putting it on the stove. He then hurried over to another cabinet and grabbed a bowl. He opened the drawer underneath it and grabbed a fork. The beaver then hurried over, putting the bowl on the counter with the fork in it. “Alright, what’s next?”
Giovanni placed down the eggs carefully next to the bowl. “Alright, now here is a somewhat important step. Cracking the egg. You need to do it carefully so you won’t get any shells in the bowl. You can either directly crack it, or lightly tap it on the side of the bowl until you get something you can work with.” Giovanni demonstrated tapping it on the side of his own bowl. He tapped it three times, and then cracked it in the bowl. “Like so.”
Bucky nodded, mirroring the actions Giovanni did. He didn’t get any shells in! That was definitely a plus.
“Okay, next we get a fork and beat the eggs, we could use something else, but doing it by hand ensures that the yolk has been broken into the whites.” The goose explained, he broke up the egg yolk and mixed it in with the egg whites.
Bucky did the same thing Giovanni did, pretty well but of course not as well as the chef himself.
“Now, as you have your egg mixed into one, you throw some salt and pepper in there to ensure that it doesn’t taste bland.” Giovanni explained as he did what he explained, mixing it all together. “This is the easy part of it, but next part you need to be aware of everything.” Giovanni threw in a few green onions into his egg mixture, just as his own personal preference. Normally, he would go all out on this, but he was teaching Bucky the basic steps, so there was no point in complicating it yet.
“From here, you pour your egg mixture into the frying pan, you will notice it goes all over the place, spreading across the bottom. That isn’t what you want, you will want to break it up, seeing as you are trying to make scrambled eggs and not an omelet. You are going to want the stove to be on high as you do this.” Giovanni continued on, explaining as he was doing the task was easy, he was just hoping that Bucky could keep the pace up. “You will want to watch the eggs to make sure they don’t burn. After a few minutes, they should be done.”
Giovanni plated his perfect scrambled eggs. “From here, people normally put on stuff like hot sauce, or even ketchup. There is a lot of things you could use to top your eggs, I personally don’t do anything, since I normally throw some cheese in there instead of making them like this, but it is all up to the person’s preference.” Giovanni gestured to the frying pan. “Since I already made my eggs, the pan should be heated up enough to get your eggs done in no time flat, so go right ahead.”
Bucky gulped, Giovanni could tell he was terrified about messing up. The beaver took a deep breath, then began to cook his soon to be scrambled eggs. Giovanni noted that he didn’t actually put any salt and pepper in, a beginner’s mistake to improve on next time.
After a bit, the eggs burst into flames, causing Bucky to panic, but Giovanni was quick to put out the fire before anything else happened. Sadly, the eggs burnt, but that would be fine. Giovanni just let out an exasperated sigh. “I tried my hardest to teach you, only for you to mess up on the final step. What do you take me for, Bucky?”
Bucky frowned, looking at the burnt eggs. “Sorry about that, friend.” He sighed, he looked up at Giovanni. “Well hey, at least we spent some time together.”
“Well, that is true. Thank you for that.” Giovanni nodded, sending a sincere look at the beaver, who’s frown turned into a smile. “I kind of missed this.”
“You’re welcome, friend. I did too.” Bucky replied.
Giovanni gave Bucky some of the eggs he made, and the two ate in silence, just enjoying each other’s company.
