Boston Baked Beans

Summary:

Natasha is not sure how she was convinced to go to the party.

Notes:

This was fun and I loved getting to look into older candy again.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Natasha thought the idea of The Avengers having their own Halloween party was silly. They were all adults and it was a holiday for children. But the others had insisted and of course that meant she had to go. She couldn't say no to Steve's puppy dog eyes. They were her greatest weakness.

He had even managed to talk her into a couple's costume. The Addams Family of all things. And while she made a great Morticia, Steve was not the greatest Gomez. He had the loving everyone and everything part down, but the macabre was not his strong suit. She thought it was sweet though.

"Nat look!" Steve said, showing up at her elbow again. "Look at what Tony was able to get."

He was holding one of the candy bowls that had been placed all around the room. Unlike the ones that she had looked into, this one didn't have the standard assortment. The bowl Steve held had candy in old style packaging. 1930s if she was correct. The kind of stuff that Steve would have seen as a kid even if he wasn't able to enjoy them himself much between his health and lack of money. Tony had definitely gotten them just for Steve. She would have to thank him for the smile it put on Steve's face.

"Boston Baked Beans?" she asked with a raised eyebrow. "These can't be a real candy."

Steve beamed at her.

"They are and they are great! Here, try one."

He pulled the box out and opened it, dumping a few of the candies into his hand. Natasha looked at them incredulously before picking one up. It was hard to her fingers. Even more to her teeth when she bit down.

"A peanut?"

"Yeah!"

"There are certainly worse things out there."
