It was an eerily quiet evening. Grian was accustomed to night patrols by now, and he all but expected the infamous Hotguy to show up late. His gaze scanned the streets for anything off kilter, but it looked like it would be a peaceful night.
Thirty minutes passed and there was still no sign of the rambunctious man. He glanced at his communicator and he saw that the most recent message was one telling him that he would be running late. Before he could sit down he felt the breath of someone on his neck.
“Did you miss me~” Hotguy whispered into his neck.
Grian could feel his spine straighten as a shiver went up his spine. Fighting the urge to punch the man he settled for shoving him off.
“Hotguy, for the millionth time, boundaries!” Grian exclaimed defensively.
“But what about the night we shared together?” The taller man gave his best puppy eyes and grinned keenly at the other man.
“That was one time, and don’t make it into something it’s not,” he grumbled, “I was having a hard day and I LET you hug me.”
“Excuses, excuses,” Hotguy smirked.
“It’s pretty quiet tonight, do you want to practice?” Grian tried to bring the conversation back on track.
“Bring it on,” he said with a mischievous look, “Get ready to be dominated.”
“Choice of words, Hotguy!” Grian couldn’t help but blush at the suggestive phrasing.
Nocking an arrow, Hotguy prepared to take aim. Grian studied the trajectory and made a guess at to where he was aiming. As he fired he gracefully dodged out of the way in time to take aim at the hero. Aiming at his arm he watched as the man brushed sweat off of his forehead.
He fumbled the shot and it went way off course. Stupid Hotguy and his stupid self. This was one mistake, he’d better not-
“Distracted much, ey Cuteguy?” He laughed at the frustrated avian, “I know I’m hot, but I didn’t think I’d be able to distract THE cuteguy?”
“Damn you! It was a matter of perspective,” he frowned, “nothing to do with you.”
Before Grian had the chance to shoot again, Hotguy had already fired his second. Much less gracefully this time around it whizzed past his head just nearly missing by a margin. Groaning, Grian quickly realized Hotguy wasn’t going to be playing fair.
He fired two shots in rapid succession and Hotguy unfortunately dodged effortlessly after both. He frowned and shot a third, this one hitting closer than the previous ones.
“Gonna have to shoot faster if you want to catch up with me, Hotguy,” he grinned.
“Oh me? I’m just getting started.”
Grian reloaded his gun and was shocked to see the man nowhere in sight. He sensed a familiar presence and dodged in anticipation to find the man nocking an arrow and firing at him from behind. The blonde found himself in a predicament as he was nearing the edge of the building.
Jumping off the side of the building he glided off to the next. Hotguy looked impressed and a part of him felt smug. Grian shot again, a bullet ripping through the fabric of his costume just off his side.
Looking down, Hotguy appeared to have noticed something that caught his eye. Grian took a risk and looked down to see spectators observing them with cameras galore. An arrow tore through the air and it whistled as it went right above his head.
Hotguy shouted across the building, “It’s not over yet!” Grian watched as the man jumped across, just nearly making it to the other side to face him. He was approaching him fast, and he didn’t appear to be nocking an arrow this time.
Before the avian could react, the hero slammed him against the ground with a smug smile worn on his face. Grian tried to get out from under the man’s grip but he stopped when he noticed the awkward position they were in. Hotguy had pinned him to the floor with his grip holding down the avian man.
“I win this time, birdie~” Hotguy was so close to his face that he could feel his breath on his face. With the moon shining above them it felt oddly romantic.
It wasn’t for another minute that Grian realized he’d been holding his breath. As much as he wanted to look away he couldn’t help but gaze the brown eyes just inches from his. There was a glint in the man’s eye, like he was thinking really hard about something. He swore he saw the man lean closer, but he hesitated.
Holding a hand down to him he smiled, “Come on now, we’d better get back to patrolling. We can’t have more rumors going around, can we?”
Grian rolled his eyes, grabbed his hand, and pulled himself up, unfortunately right into the man. Once again they were stood in the most awkward position. Hotguy had used his other arm to prop him up, but at the moment it looked like a couples embrace. At the contact he felt himself freeze. He hadn’t been this close to someone in a long time. A part of him wished that time had simply stopped, right then and there. Hotguy was warm against him and he could almost hear the man’s heartbeat.
He hadn’t realized how long he’d been holding the man’s hand until he noticed the hero’s tinge of blush on his face. His expression was one of pure adoration, a look he’d never seen on the hero’s face. Letting go gently he saw Hotguy’s smile fade ever so slightly. Grian felt a bit bad, but it wasn’t long before they heard the familiar sound of a police siren.
“Duty calls, we’d better check that out,” the avian said, trying to cut through the tension.
“O-Of course.”
For the first time in knowing the man, Hotguy stuttered. The usually outgoing and confident Hotguy, sounded flustered. Grian wanted to dive into that and maybe throw a jab at the man, but he figured now wasn’t the time, so he flew off to investigate, with the hero trailing behind him.
